The League of Gentlemen to return

I'm gonna drop a massive name clanger thingie here, but I once was invited to a big BBC talent party, took the boyf, and we proceeded to get merrily pissed on your license fee, thankyou very much.

Anyway, lots of famous people at this party, including (standing all together, rather awkwardly it must be said) all of the League of Gentlemen!! So being me, I bowled on over and stood in the middle of them and introduced myself, told them how amazing they were, etc. Such a twat, but I did get Mark Gatiss' phone number, and subsequently used it. ;)

I'm stoked that it's coming back!! Weird though to read this thread and be reminded of things like Herr Lipp's proclivities, and Babs' Cabs - times have changed, haven't they?? I'm absolutely confident in the League's abilities to change with it, and be as ahead of the curve as they were when Royston Vasey first went from stage to radio to TV - to stage again.
i really hope so.

tbf, I thought times had changed then - what was it 1999ish?

Times haven't changed enough yet. I was watching a new Netflix thing last night that contained a transphobic joke. As a friend said yesterday, it's really hard to be a fan of comedy if you're trans..

Well, it was 20 years ago the show first hit the radio, a lot has changed in that time (not enough clearly).

The same year I changed the editorial style at the Pink Paper from LGB to LGBT - sparking the ire of a small minority of vocal transphobic gay men into writing me letters (ha! Remember them!)

Now, LGBT is mainstream, trans has entered the conversation as a human fact, and less a freak show tabloid invention. (though that totally still goes on).

To be honest I was amazed at the time no-one pulled it up on Papa Lazarou looking like a black and white minstrel.

Well, I wasn't really making much more of a point than my own personal feelings tbh. I did like LoG overall though - just that one thing that niggled and I kept wishing she'd be written out.

Hope it does come back though. Might go back to watch the originals now if I can find them.

If you can't laugh at yourself, then you're missing the biggest joke in the universe.

I laugh at myself but on my own terms not in transphobic terms

There's a big difference between trans people laughing at ourselves and a jokes by a bunch of cis men about how grotesque trans women are. That's just not funny.

So don't tell me what to laugh at.

Drunk on Banana Bols, chained to the war memorial, singing "Lady Marmalade" AS HER EMPLOYER DRIVES PAST.

I got a bit sick of them towards the end, but they have had plenty of time to gather new material. I am optimistic.

A lot of in jokes and nods to the other series.

I was wondering if they would Barbara in it, and how they would handle the character these days.

Aye. A well done updating of the people and the place. Nice bid to the original radio show by mentioning the neighbouring town of Spent.

Very good I thought.

Yep, very enjoyable so far. More laughs in the first one I thought. Babs rant about the correct pronouns made me laugh. :D The fucking hedgehog bit really did me though. Could totally see it coming but still had me hooting. Really pleased with this, particularly as the third series was disappointing.
