The Islamic state

Not sure if they didn't. Reports over the last 24 hours of a strong push towards the border post by the beardies, which was apparently repulsed. Lots of airstrikes just inside the border also
Thanks, haven't got twitter and the ordinary media tend to be at least 12 hours behind events.

If the reports are true about peshmerga being detained/humiliated I don't know what to think unless it's Erdogan demonstrating his power over the 'situation' prior to letting them go on their way.

Or psychops, getting Kobanis hopes up just to dash them, totally demoralising the defenders followed by a big IS push, hope I'm wrong but it would be in line with Turkey's behaviour.
just think about it, you've been holding out by the skin of your teeth for weeks, news comes of significant game changing reinforcements, on the day they are supposed to roll into town this happens! How would you feel?

Some bad bad rumours doing the rounds suggesting the peshmerga have been detained and stripped of uniforms and weapons by the turkish military and stuck in a warehouse. Stress that there's no confirmation of this - but the usual sources are reporting the existence of the rumour.

Looks like the (sometimes unreliable) Iraqi-Kurdish news Rudaw as a source, quoting a doctor accompanying the Peshmerga - but the tweet about 'stripped of uniforms & weapons' seems to have disappeared. It's either power games after the jubilant victory parade earlier today, or something very moody (or twitter bollocks).

And there's this - story from AFP & Reuters, running in the Beirut Daily Star, that IS have released 25 kidnapped Kurdish children

Hope to hell it's twitter bollocks, if it's true then,as BA says, the shit will really hit the fan in Turkey.
ETR, shit for Shyte,as some daft sods on here consider me capable of subtle word plays.

(re - Peshmerga being held/stripped/mistreated - twitter now suggesting that it's the mob who arrived by plane, told that they have to wear civilian clothes not uniforms while they wait for the road convoy - this is from @ hevallo's timeline)

Your links not working, but the convoy was expected to arrive in Kobani this morning, wasn't it?

Kurdish Civillians turn out to cheer the HW convoy through Mardin, Turkey.

same report says the Air contingent leftŞanlıurfa airport shortly after midnight heading to Mürşitpınar border crossing in airport coaches

Now we appear to have Peshmerga commanders entering kobani to discuss with YPG/YPJ commanders how this is to be done. Sounds like last nights rumours were an inflation/mistranslation of the comments of Dr mentioned above about turkish hostility towards peshmerga.

Short piece on IS security philosophy in areas they control:

Based on IS operations, the list of people to eliminate includes tribal sheikhs who have previously cooperated with the government, members of the Awakening movement who have participated in fighting jihadist groups in the past, clerics who oppose IS' extremism and anyone suspected of delivering security information to governmental parties or other cooperating parties.

The policy of eliminating opponents as soon as they take over large areas is considered an established IS method that was adopted when it evolved in Iraq after the 2003 invasion. In addition to the security reasons, this technique is also based on IS' extremist Salafist principles, which aim to purge the land of any opposition party, to create a unified Salafist community without religious or political differences.

I'd be utterly shocked if US / UK / French etc special forces are not active in both Iraq and Syria.

Sas dont tend to be very keen on happy snaps.
Most US special forces types dont appear to grasp the concept of covert:facepalm:

Grow a beard and take off the US special forces badge is about as far as it goes:p
