The EU wants to bring back removable batteries on phones

I still use a 5S, simple to replace a battery and I don't need 5g, why would I, 5g is a huge con.

It's not a con as such, just nothing we need to rush to. Benefit short term is pretty minimal, what it will allow is greater bandwidth for everyone. So as more and more kids use Tik Tom, our urban browsing doesn't go to shit.

Why do people need more bandwidth?

Because they belive consumers value thinner, lighter, sleeker devices. Although most of us put them in a case anyway.
I don't really follow that thinner phones are harder to make with removable batteries? My old Nokia phone is about as thin as my Moto smart phone and it has a removable battery.

tiktok doesn't use enough bandwith to justify 5g, 3g provides enough depending on distance from pylon.

Maybe I'm explaining it really badly. 5g isn't really to make your stuff faster. It's to help the networks deal with total increased usage.

Quite a lot of people buy second hand iPhones or get hand me downs.

Yeah, my mum gets my old iPhone when I upgrade - she was going to get a new battery installed by Apple for £45 until I gave her my free Amazon charger battery she uses for when she goes out.

Her prior phone was an old Sony model she got off my youngest brother so she’s very happy now.

I don't really understand the smartphone market. I had a company iPhone 4S years ago and had to give it back when I left, earlier I bought a Moto (7) power which iirc cost me £160 - it seems to do most of what a £1k iPhone does, a magnetic sensor seems to be all it lacks.

People buy the high end smart phones for the cameras, sharper screen and the shiney shiney factor I think. I'll get an iPhone again but I'll wait to see if they bring out this cough affordable new one. SE2. I'm not paying over 500 quid for a phone.

I had an S3 for 5 years. I'd just buy a cheap battery off Ebay for about £6 ever 6 months or so.
I, for one, welcome heartily this development.

In other news, I was told you must never charge a rechargeable battery after it hits 100%. Its the charging that knackers rechargeable batteries so the least time its on charge the better.

Mostly yes the 10000 people at a stadium event who think it's down to them to stream it type stuff, But also looking to it as a rural workaround for the unworkable broadband for all

You can buy batteries for Iphones for about £15 off Ebay , takes five mins to fit .

Sixty squids for my Nokia One and it does all I imagine an iPhone does and more. Internet, apps, replaceable battery, usb connector and charger, earphone socket, SD card slot up to 128gig. I've dropped it down concrete stairs and the screen didn't get a scratch. I've dropped it down a toilet and it still works perfectly. It even makes phonecalls.

Moral of the story - just don't buy a thousand quid phone. No need for overpaid politicians to pass laws when they could be at home with their families.

Pretty sure I read somewhere the EU are going to/trying to stop new phones coming supplied with charger cables, because - you can just use your old one or something like that - and saving the environment.

People in Brussels are getting paid vast sums of money to think up these revolutionary ideas.

People in teeside are getting paid too much to deliver packages.

I am happy with the camera on my Moto, it is better than I was expecting ..

Modern phone cameras are pretty amazing, aren't they. They're the only reason I upgrade my phone.

I took these last week with my Xiaomi Mi8.

The Mi10 is due to be released soon. It has a 108MP sensor!!! So once the price drops to something I'm willing to pay, I'll be upgrading, and some lucky person will end up with my Mi8 :D

they are forcing manufacturers to use compatible chargers so changing device doesn’t involve throwing out 10 cables

really they are just enforcing usb on Apple

I don't really see the point. You can bring all but the most obscure brands of phone to a shop and get the battery replaced for not a whole lot more than the battery alone would cost on EBay. And the payoff is that the manufacturer can choose to either put in a larger battery or make a slimmer phone than they could if the battery were user-replaceable. If you throw out a 3 year-old phone because the battery is at 75-80% of new capacity, it's because you're a moron. Not because you can't get the battery replaced on the cheap.
