The decline of Beanfeast

I love Batchelors beanfeasts.

They are an easy and tasty alternative to mince for vegetarians. Great for shepherds pie, bolognese etc. Yet you can hardly buy them anywhere now. Even some of the larger supermarkets have stopped stocking them.

There used to be 4 different varieties, now there are only 2.

Why are they getting harder and harder to get hold of when they are so much cheaper and tastier than Quorn mince?

We take them to festivals but they're not really ideal for camping and portaloos. : D

Our local supermarkets all still sell them but only the bol and chilli.

bought them by the dozen when I was an undergrad, but it hasn't occurred to me to get them since, they're good though, when my partnere mentioned them to her parents (who emigrated to Norway in the 80s) they said they used to eat them when they were at uni in the late 70s :D

what were the other varieties? bolognese, chilli and.........?

Can anyone help me with this. I'm making spaghetti Bolognese with Beanfeast instead of mince. If the recipe says 400g of mince, how much Beanfeast do I need? Will one 120g packet be enough?

Asda have own brand packets and some Sainsburies have them. We have bought a few packets since drastically running out of money and even buying quorn is an impossible luxury.

I didn't know that. Are the Sainsbury's ones as good as the Batchelors ones? Which section are they in?

From memory of how much they make, I think you'd need at least two for that much mince.

In Brighton, I think sainsbury's have them at the end of the baked bean aisle, and asda have them with the smash and processed peas and stuff

I used to be quite fond of the Sainsbury's spag bol one - they stopped stocking it in my nearest Sainsburys, haven't seen in in ages. The mince one was good for mince potato and onion pie veggie version :)

I don't think i've had a beanfeast for about 10 years. I used to add stuff to them to make veggie stews and shepherd-less pies with them, but nowadays I'd use lentils or beans
