The Boys Graphic Novels and Amazon TV

A380

How do I change this 'custom title' thing then?
The Boys

I quite liked the graphic novels ( Garth Ennis) as a view of what a world with ‘real’ super heroes might be like. It is very dark and quite unsettling in places. Especially the few parts dealing with sexual violence. It also could be quite funny in a few places. Also very disparaging about late capitalism.

Anyone else got a view on the books?

I almost scared to watch the TV series in case it’s rubbish and spoils the books in retrospect. Anyone seen it and want to give a view?

Edgy rubbish IMO.

There's no story here at all. It's just the appeal of 'superheroes are the bad guys' plus Billy Butcher calling everyone a cunt.

The second season is complete garbage. Stick with the first season; the gimmick wears very thin very quickly.

I'm just fed up with this kind of TV now. Game of Thrones, which I realise is a completely differnet genre, burned me right out. Shock and titilation are not replacements for an actual story.

Well you did ask :D

The series is reasonably true to the books but not "quite" as dark. I read them after watching the series and I found them quite disturbing in places.

There's already a thread about the TV show here - it's great fwiw. One of the more enjoyable shows of the last few years.

Oh yeah. A d I did a search and everything. Well if a passing mod could bin or merge this one that would be grand…

Used to enjoy Garth Ennis back in Crisis days, his early stuff is pretty good. Haven't read the comics, but the series is great entertainment. As long as it doesn't take itself too seriously.
