Tell me tales of Totnes (a fortnight in March).

If you go to Dartmouth there's a little ferry down the river to the castle from the town centre quay which saves on walking. Never actually been in the castle but there's a cafe and it's a lovely spot to just sit and enjoy the surroundings. Also several ferries across to Kingswear but there's not much on that side of the river unless you fancy the steam train to Paignton, which again, the trouble is you end up in Paignton.

I spent a fake sick day in Dartmouth last summer and it was very pleasant indeed.

This will be our 5th sit via the app, and it’s been great! We love it. It means we get a loan of dogs for a while, which I find therapeutic, and which helps fill the void left by our dear departed Sorrel. And we get to visit parts of the country we might not have considered before. Plus you get essentially free accommodation in some very nice homes. It’s been great for us.

Also it has a Mott and Bailey castle.
Treygo Mills near Newton Abbott is a shopping and entertainment extravaganza you never knew you were missing.

I've been back in Devon for years but still haven't been to Trago because it can't possibly be as shit/amazing as I remember it being from my youth. And I think I've oversold it to Mrs Frank tbh.

The Falmouth one is crap, like Wilkos when they were two days away from closing for good.

For Dartmoor tor views and remoteness, but only 2 mins from the car park - Bonehill rocks was our regular fresh air spot when the kids were little. You've then got Widdecombe in the moor down there road. If you want a decent meal:

My brother and sister in law are "dog sitters" but the dogs come to them.

That looks very pretty! I think that’s a cert.

If you're interested in trains instead of driving, Teignmouth sea front and town centre are both spitting distance from the station which you can get to direct from Totnes. The station itself is a bit shit for accessibility though and IIRC there's an unavoidable set of stairs / footbridge. Dawlish station is right on the sea front and has a lift.

Nourish is a lovely vegetarian cafe in Teignmouth but it's both tiny and very popular so maybe phone up and book a table.

Luder's Patisserie in Teignmouth is also a must. Don't be fooled by the poncy French-sounding name, they do all the traditional sugary baked goods both very well and very cheap. I've done the hour plus round trip on the train before just to get a cherry almond slice.

This is an app/website called Trusted Housesitters. You pay a small membership per year but for that you can have as many holidays as you want. I’ve heard of people who can WFH using it as continual accommodation, moving from one sit to the next continually.
I think they originally used "the dogs trust" website but use something else now. Might be the one you mentioned. Not sure.

It’s all month “a few miles away just outside of Newton Abbot”.
I’m actually away at present so might be happening now :D

Brixham is the best of the Torbay towns. Working fishing port. Berry head is the remains of a Napoleonic era fort
Just to follow up on Berry Head, very nice cafe there which does veggie options and pretty certain it is fairly accessible. Usually windy and worth going on a clear day for the views

Oh danny la rouge you are in luck, it's still there
Two bridges is a lovely little spot
I’m impressed that they diversified 13 years after being founded, then decided that’s it; they’d found the perfect synergy of gnomes and <checks notes> sheepskin, and stuck with that ever since.

The Darlington estate is quite hilly.

Ah I haven't been to the main part TBH. I was thinking of the access for all path. I walked it and helped advise on the audio description a few years ago. Info on this page.
