Podcast from some academic conference looks at John Thelwall's (of London Corresponding Society fame) early linkage of opposition to slavery and colonialism with social justice at home in Britain.
Colonialists and capitalists have formed an unholy alliance which has embarked on “a profligate crusade of the powerful and wealthy, against the poor and weak”
Few other interesting talks from same conference, Writing the Empire: Scribblings from Below

Ta. That luc nancy 'on communism' one has been doing the rounds of excitable academic types, Having ploughed through his massive shit book i'm not that hopeful. Ones like your link seem far more interesting. (Some of them recorded just down the road apparently).

Spotted that luc nancy one and have it open to listen to next - never heard of the bloke :)o); is he a bit obscurantist?

Just started listening but it's an hour plus; will probably have to finish later.

ETA: Says in blurb he chose to speak about 'communism' instead of 'democracy' - maybe that's a good sign :D
