South Norwood news and chat

Love Lane Green is on the edge of South Norwood, by the tram lines. The local residents have done a great job of turning this wasteland into a great amenity, with a playground, veg patch etc. Now the owners want to take it back, and the community are about to be evicted, with apparent collusion from the mayor. Full story here:

I've signed the community petition Sign the Petition

Hello! we are settling in to South Norwood and liking it here.

We need to get signed up with a local GP - any recommendations? The Portland Medical and Denmark Road Surgery are both in walking distance, any experiences with either?

Is the owner of this cat around? Or does anyone have any info? I took this from a cat rescue page.

Does anyone know a Ms Palmer who had lost her tabby female cat called Fifi? We scanned the cat yesterday and her chip is registered to this person, with a SE25 postcode. The chip number shows the cat as lost or stolen so she is missed by her owner.
The cat was found in Sutton (SM1) so the owner might have moved there recently or Fifi might have made her way there somehow.
We have tried to get in touch but can the power of social media help reunite them? Let us know if you can help please.

Country Park practice seems to have got a lot better in recent months. They’re by the leisure centre and pharmacy.

Thanks but too late.

I visited three surgeries to see what they look like and asked them all the same questions. Not much in it. Decided on
Portland rd one

So went the one who stated they had the most gps and staff and whose receptionist seemed theost helpful/ friendly.

The Denmark rd / country park surgeries, I found the way they share the space a bit odd. And that space seemed very impersonal. Weird that the 3 biggest gps in the area are all in spitting distance of each other.

Now:

Man found guilty of murdering South Norwood retired nurse and setting her body alight

Ms Hastings' family said: "There is no waking from this nightmare it continues every waking moment it disturbs our sleep and disrupts our daily lives.

"Our mother was a pillar within the community spent her life helping others. She was loved by everyone who knew her.

"Mum worked as a midwife for over 30 years delivering 100’s of babies at St Thomas’s and St Georges Hospitals. Our Mother’s final moments will play on our minds and these thoughts will haunt us for the rest of our lives.

"Aaron Fyle you are a parasite who has preyed on vulnerable people who have worked hard for their possessions.

"We believe you to be an evil, monstrous individual who killed a defenceless elderly woman, our Mother. You destroyed our family home and all our Mothers treasured belongings and possessions.

"You, Aaron Fyle, have destroyed our lives, you have taken away our beautiful mother and Grandmothers precious life, leaving us with only her badly burnt body lying naked on the floor of her home.”

Hello SoNo people - with the football season approaching we are thinking about offering our parking space to a CP football fan, as we don't have a car and can't drive. We are 5 minutes walk to Whitehorse Lane stadium just outside the area closed to traffic on match days.

Would any urbs have experience of doing this?

Know any urbs who would like such a space?

Anyone know what the going rate is if we hire it out to strangers?

a complete stranger has offered us £10 per game / £200 for the season for 3hrs parking each match day - which doesn't seem like much...

Have you accepted the offer? I'm a Palace season ticket holder, but am not interested myself. It does sound low. I would ask for £20 per game.
The season starts this weekend, but the first home game is on the 24th.

I said to the chap that £10 wasn't much and he immediately doubled his offer. He is stumping up for the first 10 games in advance. Everyone's happy.

South Norwood library set to open for 5 days instead of 2... which is some good news (shame about the other libraries).
