You and my middle child, the conversation on the way home from school went

'whyyyy did you give it awaay?
Because it was very little and it needed special fox food and to be somewhere that they can look after it.
But we could look after it!
We couldn't, I don't have any special fox food for starters and...
I didn't want you to give it away!
I'm sorry, but it wouldn't have lasted long without food

If wiskey lives South of Watford, it could well be the first confimed example of an indigenous infant pachyderm.

Yep. The red squirrels were dying out here but they've increased somewhat in number apparently.
Lovely to see one...the tail was fabulous!!!

Not as dramatic as the time I found an iguana walking down the road in Brixton .... That ended up with a van of police armed with riot shields trying to corral it into a wheelie bin

I had an iguana in my garden in Crystal Palace once. Looking gorgeous but anomalous in the branches of my cherry tree.

You're really lucky in Ireland; greys are dying out, with the rise of pine martens, which has meant in increase in reds, too.

Yep. They're very cute.
I had not seen one in years.
Last time I saw a red squirrel was in Finland. It was a really cheeky one who came up to us. I was with a group of tourists who all oooed and aaaahed at this squirrel. They started throwing bits of biscuits and stuff for the squirrel. All of a sudden about 25 red squirrels appeared...some looked very weird with lumps on them. The weirdest one had a lump hanging over one of his eyes.
It was a bit intimidating...

Afterwards, I thought how clever they were sending the small cute one out first . And I also wondered how close we were to Russian nuclear submarines
