Snooker 2024-25

I'm starting this now, as tomorrow Channel 5 have something called "Snooker 900" on. It's apparently a "fast-paced" version of the game, and will feature Hendry and White, possibly against one another.

Anyway, this is the thread to comment on that, and all other snooker adventures between now and the World Championships in May.

Oh aye, that 15 minute game (900 seconds).

Not a massive fan of the shorter formats, time clocks etc, personally but I'll tune in to see Jimmy White.

Cheers for the heads up

Will be watching the 900 later, enjoyed it last time.

Some finish to the inaugural Saudi Arabia Masters! I guess it's worth going over there to win £500,000! 😮

Was that the prize!?!

I saw about 3 frames of that.

It's crap having a job again :D

It’s moderately entertaining, but it’s not snooker, just as penalty shoot outs are not football. Too much noise and razzmatazz. Also, far too many adverts. And it’s perturbing seeing Jimmy White look so old and forget the silly new rules. This is not for me.

A square table?  although I see the point

eta: not a square table? strange angle the camera's at

I like the spots on the white to show the spin.

Table should be higher so the older players don't need to bend down as much :(

Is it square? I thought it was just slightly smaller and more squat than a real one, with foreshortening from the camera view.

yes there was an angle off from the side where it showed it's regulation shape. And someone's using rest so presume same size table - would be silly doing one especially.

Pool table ftw

I need to watch this so I can condemn it. If you want a fast game 9 ball pool is right over there on eurosport. The pace and rhythm of lengthy sessions is half the game, who is commanding the pace etc.

Bit gutted for Jimmy, but he seemed to be enjoying himself.

Likewise Stephen, the career winner, who's now quite amiable about playing shit, having not practiced.

Looks like Ronnie is going to go 3 -0 down to He Guoqiang in a minute

e2a: 3-0 to Guoqiang. 92 - 0 in that last frame

It's the free channel I'm watching that's included with our very basic Sky package. Eurosport 1. Channel 413 on our box.

I was hoping the home nations tournaments would be on either quest or ITV4. They have been before unless I'm getting mixed up?

I only have freeview atm.

The English Open is live on DMX, which is Freeview channel 39. I saw a bit of Wu against Singh earlier, and will properly bed in for Wakelin - Robertson this evening.

No rest for the wicked after Neil Robertson's welcome return to a title at the English Open - the British Open starts today and it's on ITV4. Afternoon session 12:45 to 17:30 and evening 18:45 to 22:15.

John Higgins also drops out the top 16 for the 1st time after 29 years! & that after winning the race to be the 2nd 1,000 century man recently. Rankings could all change again after this week at Cheltenham.

I love a bit of giant killing in snooker. Especially if it's against an unlikeable player.

Re Everton, I only got into snooker recently but from what I've heard, he was a much better commentator than the current lot because he knew when to keep quiet rather than endlessly yammering on to fill the space. Apparently his book on O'Sullivan is good too.

Jimmy White and Hossein Vafaei have been playing for over THREE HOURS!

And it's only 3-2 to Jimmy and it is a best of 7 match  🥱

Oh my days!
This is the frame of fuck ups!
Jimmy hit the pink instead of a red and the ref missed it!
Hossein fouls a red with the rest.
Hossein breaks off from what looks like the yellow spot - FOUL - the white was outside the D - no there's no way of checking it
Plus lots more....

We've just hit an hour for this frame alone
