Short holiday with my 11 year old daughter

mod

A modernist
I'd like to get away somewhere this year. Even if its only 4 to 7 nights this half term with my 11 year old daughter. Mon 25th to Frid 29th Oct.

i'm still a bit anxious about flying / covid. Some very close friends just got back from Ibiza and both adults, their 13 year old son and 1 year old baby all had covid within a week of their return.

So a staycation is more likely. But I can remember being 11 and going away just with my mum (dad wasn't around) wouldn't have filled me with excitement. Our trips tended to be back to Belfast so I had my cousins to play with.

Have asked mates with kids of similar ages but no ones free (or has annual leave left).

I'm single. Separated from my partner of 7 years last October. She had a daughter 18 months older. The girls were close and that made things very easy for me and my ex. So se are both adapting to my single life and thats all generally going well in our new flat etc but situations like this are proving a but tricky.

I haven't got a clue what to do that'll keep her entertained. centerparcs.

Or maybe just stay home (in Brighton) and go for day trips to things from here. Chessington Wold of Adventure. , Go Karting.

She's really into Football and likes coming to see fulham with me.

We are playing Nottingham Forest away on Sunday 24th Oct. So I could get an air B&B in Nottingham somewhere nice for 4 days and use that as a base to do other things near there too. Hmmmm...

Sounds ideal.

Day trips can prove expensive.
There is a centre PARC's in Nottingham.
There is also one at Longleat which has loads to do.
Daughter, 11...a fair bit to do in the Bath area.
Horse riding possibly?

Alton Towers is not that far away from Nottingham. Also the Peak District - somewhere like Matlock Spa - it's very scenic has tons of stuff to do with kids.

Does she like theme parks? Some of them have decent hotels attached. Though actually it's probably a bit late to book the hotel.

Eurodisney might sound like a weird suggestion, but it's actually pretty good with an 11-year-old. Though since she presumably hasn't been jabbed yet it might be better to leave it till next year.

Can you have your ex step-daughter to stay for part of the time? Then go to theme parks, Brighton etc with the pair of them. Course they might have suggestions of their own for day trips - it's worth asking her.

It might be a bit rustic for the modern tween/teen, but I used to enjoy going camping and doing a bit of hiking or horse riding at that age. Or going to see drag racing/stock car racing/falconry display or jousting at a castle or something.

I don't know what kids are into these days mind you, when I was a nipper I was probably closer to the age of castles than I was to mobile phones :D

I think I'd be very tempted do the staycation thing: its more flexible if the weather is crap, and you can simply be more relaxed - it doesn't matter if you lounge in bed for an extra hour, you can decide to chin off whatever you were doing to go home and make pizzas...

You live at the seaside, that's great for an 11yo - loads of entertainments, the pier, chips on the beach, my kids would love that.

'doing a holiday' can be a bit stressful in these circumstances, staying at home, at the seaside, is probably about the best holiday - unless she's into hillwalking and fancies doing the Five Sisters of Kintail - that you could provide for her.

Miserable little scroats. By chance, I have recently talked to a colleague about his 15 year old and our electrician about his 10 year old and both have said
the only thing that interests them is their phone and nothing else :(
There is hope now. Now my daughter (and son) are a lot older they have developed many more interests though my son tends to keep away from his phone.

If you can afford centre parks then for the same money you'll have a very exciting days out from home holiday with plenty.

Horse riding, indoor climbing, boat trip, museums, Nat.Trust places. canal boat hire.

I like the idea of giving her a list to choose from and be involved in the planning.
