Shannon Matthews - Channel 4 documentary

I watched this. Don't think they deserved all the bad press tbh, it seemed like they were just a family trying to do their best under extremely difficult circumstances.

Yes I agree, I hadnt formed an opnion about them either way to be honest. But the press treated them in a horrible and cold manor.

I'm really surprised a police liasion officer wasnt with them to help deal with all that.

I found it uncomfortable viewing, tbh, I couldn't warm to the Mum, the stepdad, to me, didn't come across well, but then, he is a kid of 22 ....
Shannon's grandmother had given a story to one of the Sunday redtops about how she had gone around there one day and there was one of the kids holding his stomach saying how the stepdad had punched him and another of the kids said the stepdad had hit him ... the story was read out on screen by one of the Mum's friends. I was channel hopping as I found it somewhat car-crash telly. Neighbours had made a poster and asked people to sign the bottom, "Mum" signed it, Shannon's dad signed it, then there was a bit of ho-ha about the stepday signing it "dad" too .....
Are the grandmothers claims true / not true, I don't know. However, Shannon still hasn't gone home, by her own choice I read somewhere ....

She can go home whenever she likes, she's in the care of Kirklees Family Services on a voluntary basis.

She doesn't want to go home.

No, the police aren't sending her home until they've finished questioning her. I suspect they're worried the parents may influence her story...
The police have no legal right, even if they or the girl wanted the police to have. As above, she's effectively in care at the mo.

Would this be the same kind of 'voluntary' when the police get suspects to come down the station and *help them with their enquiries* :D

Voluntary as in "I don't want to go home to face my abusive violent surplus stepfather or my drunk gargoyle faced chav neighbours pretending to care about my welfare and would rather stay here".

That's a bit uncalled for. :(

Her mum's been charged with kidnap and false imprisonment.

The mother of Shannon Matthews, the girl who went missing for several weeks earlier this year, has been charged with her kidnap and false imprisonment.

The new charges were revealed as Karen Matthews appeared at Leeds Crown Court.

The 32-year-old, of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, denies those charges and an earlier charge of perverting the course of justice.
Michael Donovan, 40, also from Dewsbury, pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnap and false imprisonment.

The uncle of Mrs Matthews' former partner, Craig Meehan, also now faces a charge of perverting the course of justice, which he denies.
Mrs Matthews did not enter a plea on child neglect charges.

Poor kid.

Looks like there’s a musical movie being released next month

Apparently it’s the “brainchild” of Kunt & The Gang.

Its songs include ‘Shannon Ain’t Dead (She’s under me bed)’, ‘You’re A Paedophile’ and ‘Karen Calls The Maddie Hotline’.

Last night, the controversial producer said: “There will be lots of Mumsnet Karens losing their sh*t about whether this should be allowed. Nearly all of them won't have seen it or would never watch it, but that won't stop them from wading in!"

This has been a long term project of Kunt; I think since around 2010; the songs were on his Spotify at one point as I recall listening to them a few years ago.

More recently is has been a live musical at Edinburgh a few years ago and then the film had a premiere in Leeds and London back in the spring.

Don't remember liking the songs but perhaps they’ll work as a musical. I’ll probably work out how to buy it on Amazon when it’s released

My first thought was this is very old news because they did this musical ages ago (some friends went to see it who love K&gang) but I see this is a (presumably very low budget) film version of said musical.
