Shameless

Cloud

Omar Commin!
Is it good or bad?

Some of the scenarios are too close to home for me. I have actually experienced something like the chatsworth estate for myself and it was far from being funny.

My mother and her right wing biggoted husband love it and I agree it's extremely funny but I can't help but feel they are laughing at Englands social underclass. My mother and twat often refer to people as scum, anyone who catches a bus for instance.

Is it moral to laugh at Shameless or is it written to entertain these biggoted twats with a hangover from christianity? The message of the show seems to be that as we no longer have to answer to god for our sins, we have become morally corrupt.

Is it written by somebody who truly does think that poverty is a sin? Is it tongue in cheek or what and am I taking it far too seriously?

Just annoys me that my twat of a father in law loves sitting there laughing at all the scum and really enjoys it.

well i think the bloke who created it and wrote the first series (maybe a couple more?) was writing from his experience.

It's loved by pretty much every working class person I know, including me

It's fucking class is what it is - comedy, tragedy, pathos...got it all. Did you see this weeks? Coulda been a greek play

Paul Abbott

He was. And although he doesn't write episodes any more (that I know of), the sentiments and attitudes have remained very similar to his perspectives

I think he's got the wrong end of the stick – I've always seen Shameless as a fairly traditional celebration of family and community despite its occasionally lazy stereotypes and cartoonish plots. I think the writers are very good at making most of the characters and their situations sympathetic.

The latest series has been a partial return to the form of the first three series too with the Maguires finally being put through the wringer. I'd love Fiona, Steve, Kev and Veronica to come back for a guest appearance but can't see it happening (the actors who play them are all doing really well in other projects, especially James McAvoy).

I think everyone who loves it thinks that, but I doubt very much it'll happen

Still, they're always there to watch again. I think me and my lass have watched every series at least 3 times, if not more

Agree with that...think it has or is returning to the standard of the first few series....love the Maguire brothers

Funny fucking character that, but again, does that lovely Shameless mix of pathos and comedy

I got all choked when Ian came back, and he said he'd really missed him. Having to live in a place with people who would quite likely kick his head in if they knew...

on that note, next week's looks really interesting too!!

Shameless is brilliant, especially the last few episodes with Paddy coming off smack and Frank getting his kids taken away. They seem to have gone back to doing bigger story arcs instead of the 'happy ending every week' episodes of seasons 4 and 5, and without making the show any less entertaining.

Appaently HBO is doing a US version, which will be terrible.

defended it resolutely up until this series. The first four (?) were just crap sex, which we've seen before, but better done. The tedious mickeh gets uptight copper to smoke spliff and be turned on by his porn stories was jsut the last straw. Well that and Ian going

I'm a big fan of the trailer park boys which is similar in the fact that it makes social commentry on a group of people who are generally despised by the vast majority but there seems to be far more empathy involved in building the characters in that show. Even though things are shit, humanity shines through. I don't feel like I am laughing at them.

Maybe I am missing this with shameless.

It's just that my mother truly hates council estate dwelling, benefit claiming "scum" but loves Shameless.

She commented the other day that it was hardly realistic because Frank came out with such philosophical statements and a drunk like him would never be like that. She is obviously seeing seeing something positive about Frank but it does nothing to change her view that the unemployed are one huge piece of shit.

I dunno exactly what I am trying to say as this is just a TV program. I just find it quite sad that watching all the squalor is cheering her up.

Well we can't decide who should watch stuff, and for what reason, can we? She's obviously thought about it though, which is never a bad thing

eh, my mother is obsessed with fucking hospital documentaries - and if they have sick/dying children in them, all the better for her. I find this repulsive myself, but there you go :D

I cannot WAIT to see what happens when Mandy finds out about Karen and her bloke! :D

It's all gonna kick off!!!

Cloud - Your Mum sounds a bit weird but let her get on with it ey?

kinell zenie, I didn't know about that :mad:

Although I did know a certain shopkeepers ex is coming back and I personally can't wait for that :D

ey? She's been shagging him for ages? It's gotta come out surely? :D

Yer saw that, should be interesting lol
