One of the conditions of getting Breeze was that we not let her out, as we're quite near a busy road and lots of foxes (one attacked the neighbour girl's cat and it had to be put to sleep.) Of course they can't force us now, but I take their point. I grew up in a tiny village that had a very busy road running through and the attrition rate for both cats and dogs (all were left loose and most lived outdoors back then) was pretty high :( Also, more of a risk of cat-napping with pedigree.

She's cool about walking on the lead, which I know for a lot of cats would be a NOPE. Could build a cat aviary (no idea what it's called when it's for cats) out back. The breeders have two huge ones. Not sure I want to opt for that.

Manter Epona when you got your kitties, did the breeders say no to letting them out?

Yup, we had to sign an agreement which included things like not letting him roam and if we can't look after him any more he has to go back to them, not be sold. They wouldn't give us the papers till we proved we'd had his bits cut off too. Ragdolls are *very* trusting and have no concept of danger- he's skipped up to a thug-dog and tried to make friends, and the three times he has (very briefly) escaped, he's bolted under a car (a neighbour who managed to stop), fallen in the pond next door and been pushed off a wall by a big ginger tom.:oops:

Yes, it was a condition of us having them that they aren't allowed to wander. If we had a garden it would be OK if it were properly catproofed, or on a harness, or a secure cat pen.
The breed I have (Oriental Shorthair) are bred and reared to be very friendly and affectionate, they are intelligent but don't really have much innate risk awareness.

Thanks both. Breeze is likewise very outgoing but not at all worldly-wise, so would likely just hop into a catnapper's car, or large dog's jaws, or similar. :(

Even my moggy is half Cornish Rex - a breed known for being really quite scatty and fearless, he's absolutely nuts and it's quite clear knowing him and his behaviour that I shouldn't let him roam, both for his own safety and the safety of others (he gets a bit overexcited, I once had to prise him off my dad's head, it was like a scene out of Alien). He's very definitely several fries short of a happy meal. One of my Oris is slightly braindamaged due to birth anoxia (he wasn't breathing when he was born), even if I hadn't signed an agreement with his breeder there is no way on this earth that I would let a cat who regularly falls off the sofa come in contact with traffic. And I doubt Sonic would go out without me, he's my velcro cat, almost permanently attached to me.

Also although cat owners cannot in law be held responsible for their cat, I do think there is a social responsibility in terms of not letting them shit all over the place and run into traffic.

I didn't notice the writing at first and I thought you'd bought that for your cat.

I was about to reply to ask where I can get one for my cat when I realised
he likes the pit, but hates the balls
its a chad valley pop up ball pit and 200 'fun balls' from John Lewis

There's also the worry about pedigree cats getting nicked.
