Russia 5-0 Saudi Arabia (Group A) - 16:00 - 14/06/2018

It's a corrupt world, but Russian and Saudi are particularly grim examples. Factor in their human rights records and the grimness goes right into the red. That doesn't mean I won't enjoy the football though, even if it is despicable that it's being held in Russia...

From the BBC:
Saudis are understandably fraught after their collapse to the hosts in Moscow last night. Al-Watan newspaper called it a “painful fall” against unfancied opponents.

Saudi football chief Adel Ezzat singled out several players whom he said “would be held accountable” for the loss, including goalkeeper Abdullah al-Mayouf.

Meanwhile the head of the country’s sport authority Turky al-Sheikh says he and the team take “full responsibility” for the result and used a well-known Arabic phrase to convey extreme embarrassment.
