Road Trip / TRAIN Trip ;-)

Isambard

Dab of Rioja, Kitten? :D
Me and the ex him-indoors are, after suggestion from my mum, planning a road (read TRAIN!) trip across Wales for the summer. Visiting family in Cardiff and then the goal is an Irish Sea port as we're heading to see mates in Dublin.

I want chilled out pubs and there MUST be a bit of trains in there.
He, as an ethnic, is up for experiencing life as it's lived, that you maybe don't see in the tourist brochures about Britain.

Public transport only.

Suggestions please, cheers.

Direct train Cardiff to Fishguard (which connects with the day sailing at around 10.00 am off Cdf - pleasant ride through West Wales , especially after Swansea , where it follows the estuary) - or , a much longer ride through Hereford , Shrewsbury , Chester , Rhyl etc to Holyhead - the N Wales coast is varied scenically , but you get to go over the Menai Bridge)

Would personally go via Fishguard -
