Repelling Foxes

Outside dog of the right sort would do it, otherwise it's big chickenwire cage with really deep sunk edging as they can't half dig.
Thanks Jim !
Chicken wire is definitely something I will be putting around garden and enclosures for pets and other animals !

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions !
As was talking to some farmers once who suggested some kind of paint, anyone any clues to what this may be ?

Would a badger or fox be able to cull a tortoise; around 10-12 inches long !
Would either carry prey away ?

Maybe they escaped. Maybe they’re living with neighbours.

If there’s a community of foxes living in your area, getting rid of the one that frequents your back yard will simply make it possible for another different fox to start using yiur back yard.

Yeah I'm very reluctant to cull any fox;that's why I'm looking for alternatives !
The hedgehog is definitely gone; blood and prickles everywhere !
Hoping to still find tortoise !

It's illegal to shoot an a animal with a crossbow in the UK, for good reason - it's difficult to ensure a clean kill in a safe way.

Longbows on the other hand:D. That will teach you to steal my boot!

You can get fox repellent in most garden centres. Basically a peppery powder that foxes don't like.

The various deterrents you can buy do work, but if you've got a big supply of fox food in your garden - and lots of other foxes nearby to provide competition for easier meals - then not much, apart from a reasonably assertive dog, is going to keep the foxes away.

If you can, harden your garden's perimeters - chicken wire on all the fences, close up any gaps - and lace it all with deterrents - then you need to secure the pens the animals live in. Chicken wire is fine, but both foxes and badgers dig, and dig well, so it needs to go under the pens as well.

We have neither foxes nor badgers because of having dogs, but if we go away for more than a week the foxes start nosing around the other livestock.
