Removing noise from vinyl rips.

Does anyone have any suggestions for software to remove noise from a vinyl rips. I have some WAV files and it's not just a few crackles it sounds like lots of static.

ive never tried to run a third party plugin via audacity - is it possible?

Otherwise install reaper and install one of the plug-ins mentioned. Reaper gives you a 60 day trial period.

I've tried audacity but for the noise reduction effect it wants a sample of just the noise alone, and then it will subtract that from the rest of the track. The problem with this vinyl rip is that the amount of noise seems directly proportional to the sound level on the music, so I cant really do that.
