Recommend me some brogues

Ah, if only they were darker...I like these though https://www.oliversweeney.com/brogue-shoes/dunwich-oxford-brogue?colour=Chestnut

seems like there's a fine line between a smart brogue and dad shoes...what am I saying? I AM a dad, lol

Still haven't found anything nice than those Loakes tbh.

The thing is with Sweeney, is that they never look like 'Dad' (or in my case, Insurance office nerd) because they're 'Sweeneys'!

Those ones will be stupid heavy - I have a pair of Churchs with those soles (put on in error so I received a brand new pair for free!) and they feel like they're built for Snow.

If you can find a white/EVA sole you will be positively laughing - they're like rubber but lightweight, so feel more like trainers (though look noticeably more casual/contrasting)

Killer b pretty much gets it. I'd add Trickers too they're worth a look. And has anyone mentioned Church's?

Yeah, I spent a couple of hours yesterday trying to find bargains from the cobblers Killer B mentioned - nothing doing, unless you're a size 6 or something. I think I'm going to go with the Loake Oban, to me they're the nicest ones I've seen, and I expect they'll be perfectly good shoes.

theres a company based in Weston-super-Mare that do excellent - if not top tier, £300 - shoes.

http://www.gentlemen-prefer-brogues.co.uk/

i've got two pairs of their brogues, the tan and dark brown Hamptons (which is a really dark brown, dark chocolate colour), and i'm very happy with them - i got the two pairs for about £65 each. as i say, they aren't Churchs' or Trickers, but they are (imv) 80%+ of the best shoes you could buy for £300 for about a fifth of the price.i would say they are equivilant to a pair of Loakes, and i've got Loakes..

.

i've had them for about a year, i use them a lot, and i'm very happy with them - the sizing can be a bit erratic, but the bloke is very good at changing them.

I went with the Loake Oban in the end - plus another pair of black shoes for half their price so I can alternate.

Thanks for all your recommendations

Bit late now but I'm a big fan of my H by Hudson pair, £95ish.

I am a bit surprised how much people on this thread are prepared to pay for their shoes. I don't think I have ever paid more than about £75.00 and that was in Spain for a pair of nice black lace ups which I have resoled a couple of times since.

I must admit I was sceptical until killer b told me to do bad things.

Now, I can't imagine not wearing decent shoes. The difference is amazing.

I regularly pay over £200 for shoes and boots. I have shoes and boots that are over 20 years old. You get what you pay for :)

eta. when I say regularly I mean about once every two years, not every week.

I bought my Loakes 2nd hand off EBay for thirty quid and I've had them resoled for twenty five. 55 quid for the smartest shoes I've ever owned and a pair that'll last a lifetime. That's not extravagant- it's just good value.

Perhaps I am a cheapskate, actually no, I am! That said I didn't think long some time ago before spending £1,300 on a camera and it has lasted me 15 years so far. :)
