Proposal for new law to tackle dangerous cyclists.

What about pedestrians killing other road users? Are they dealt with fairly under the law?

give us an example
Park St, Bristol, approx 20 years ago, pedestrian stepped out from behind parked cars into path of motorcyclist, who came off and died.

Plus plenty of cyclists injured by being struck or by taking evasive action when pedestrians have strayed into bike lanes without looking. I broke my arm after a pedestrian wandered into the road in front of me once, though that was exacerbated by a poor surface (block paving) which made me skid and go over when I braked hard.

And you remeber that one case from 20 years ago. How many deaths caused by car drivers do you remember from the past 20 years? Possibly not many, because such deaths are so common that they're an accepted fact of life. They are a price we've collectively agreed to pay for the comfort and convenience of those who own motor vehicles. Well, not agreed to as such, more been frog-boiled into mute acceptance.

It's fine to level up the punishments for cyclists (or peds) who kill, but these events are vanishingly rare. What would be a better use of time is making it easier to do folk for dangerous driving, rather than that being such a high bar that they go for careless and minimal porridge.
Well exactly. They’re only going after cyclists in this case because they’re cast as the villains in Daily Mail land and it’s politically useful to go after this ‘out group’ as it appeals to the base. It’s a shit way to govern.

I wonder how the pedestrians you mention fared. You're clearly right people should take more care when they cross the road, for their own safety as much as anything else
