Proposal for new law to tackle dangerous cyclists.

Like many cyclists on here, you seem to be complaining that cyclists shouldn't be subject to the same sort of rules that all other road users are subject to.
There are already systems in place to deal with shit driving. They don't need addressing, as they work quite well.

There are, but clearly they have little or no effect on driving given the poor standard of driving I and others witness on a daily basis. Toothless without enforcement.

Conversely, cyclists can and do ride away from the scene of accidents with a resounding 'fuck you'' attitude, and their victims have as good as zero recourse.

Do you have any evidence that this happens more often than cars driving off? What sort of law would prevent this, how would it work? What about pedestrians that cause accidents, how do you ensure they are accountable? They can kill too.

Do you have any evidence to back that up?

It has to happen more often than cars driving off in order for it to be addressed?

Nice whataboutery there

It's just the dangerous dogs bill innit. Twenty years on and there's still a kid killed every year or two. A waste of everyone's time to satisfy tabloid readers and pound shop Richard Hammonds like the ones on the cycling thread which has now happily and appropriately become a car crash.

If you don't want nutters riding round on circus bikes then enforce the laws that exist.

...the cycling thread which has now happily and appropriately become a car crash.

You're missing the point about the cycling thread. It's always been a car crash, that's the appeal of it. Planks like you come and go on it (you are required to do so for everyone else's amusement, that's the whole point of it). Occasionally there's a bit of decent debate on it, but it'll probably be around for longer than you will! ;)

If they did want to do something about 'dangerous cyclists' they'd give the police some resources to do it. This is just a cheap attempt to satisfy the prejudices of the kind of drooling idiot who witters on about road tax and expects cyclists to ride in the gutter.

I like that it gets up your nose :D

I like to think I brought a whole new level of bad feeling to it. Your weird sexual fantasies about punishing errant cyclists seem to be becoming less frequent.

The laws that exist aren't adequate and give pedestrians no recourse if/when injured by a cyclist.
Driver is claiming against me
Under Sec 170 (1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988, a motorist is under a statutory duty to stop and give information or documents when ‘an accident occurs by which–

(a) personal injury is caused to a person… or

(b) damage is caused–

(i) to a vehicle… or

(ii) to an animal (defined as cattle, ass, mule, sheep, pig, goat or dog)… or

(iii) to any other property…

(2) The driver must stop and, if required to do so by any person having reasonable grounds for so requiring, give his name and address and also the name and address of the owner and the identification marks of the vehicle.

(3) If for any reason the driver does not give his name and address under subsection (2) above, he must report the accident.

(4) A person who fails to comply with subsection (2) or (3) above is guilty of an offence.’

Sec 170 does not apply to cyclists (or pedestrians) who may cause a collision.

Cyclists can plough someone down and ride off into the sunset. Do you think that's OK, or do you think the law should be changed?

They can do the same with the new law you plonker. Noone wants your nazi jaywalking laws and cyclist registration.

There were basically no hamsters at all. I want my money back.
Here you go ...

Here is a man pissing in the swimming pool while loudly insisting that the swimming pool has always been full of piss. Technically it's true, but it assumes that we can't simply throw out the old men with no bladder control and let the civilised majority enjoy a piss-free pool.
