This isn't anything particularly new. Over the years, Ireland has had interference from American groups (on referenda like abortion, same sex marriage etc), the misuse of Shannon Airport (mentioned on another thread) British spies during the Emergency years and beyond. And there were accusations levelled at German and Japanese diplomats during the war years.
But it seems to be a bit more blatant now. The island is of strategic interest, geographically and it's not like there's a lot we can do in terms of standing up to possible agents and meddlers. Diplomatic expulsions could be enacted, at a guess. After all, there's been calls for the expulsion of the Israeli mission...
