Poor old Pierce Brosnan

Poor bugger lost both his wife and daughter to ovarian cancer.

Pierce Brosnan's daughter Charlotte has died from ovarian cancer, aged 42.

She had battled the disease for three years, but died on Friday afternoon.

"On June 28 at 2pm my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, her children Isabella and Lucas and her brothers Christopher and Sean," read a statement from Brosnan.

“Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity.

“Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl. We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon.

"We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences.”

Her mother, the Australian actress Cassandra Harris, also died of the disease in 1991 while married to Brosnan, as did Harris's own mother.

Its a difficult thing for anyone, but to have people stick cameras in your face while you're dealing with it, puts it on a whole new level.

You have to wonder if there's a cancer gene at work there.

Always have an odd mixture of feelings when I see stories like this.

Absolute sympathy for Brosnan - but it also brings to mind how many non-famous people there are out there going through similar things, invisibly.

Its fairly well known that its connected with the BRCA gene, same as breast cancer

Very sad indeed .first he loses his wife and then his daughter who he must have loved very much because he adopted her
