Paramount Plus recommendations

I got Paramount for a trial. It was so glitchy that I cancelled it as soon as I watched The Offer (which despite critics panning it, was actually very good I thought). It kept buffering, and took ages to load, the picture quality wasn't stable; I don't have those issues with other streaming services.

We watched the first three episodes of Stags. The premise is as done to death as is unappealing on paper: a dark comedy/drama about bunch of Brits on a stag trip overseas being banged abroad for drug offences.

But to our surprise, it turns out to be a complex, multidimensional, cleverly written story better than any other of the subgenre I have seen. The prison environment where they find themselves is in fact a Mad Max style dystopian nightmare, with nothing as it seems and the two controlling factions within the facility being run by strangely charming yet ruthless siblings who hate each other.

Get past the first two thirds of the first episode and you’ll suddenly see the show taking off in unexpected directions. Very enjoyable stuff halfway through
