Painting fence and birds

Good afternoon.

Our fence needs to be treated/painted. I wondered if anyone has any tips for deterring birds from landing on it as it dries.

There are a lot of birds here!

We'll wait until later into summer before we do it, trying to avoid nesting season.

The thread title made me wonder why you want to paint birds. I'm sure the RSPB would take a dim view on such behaviour.

Good old fashioned scarecrow? If you can't find straw you could dress up as one and stand by the fence while the paint dries, waving your arms about.

I nearly called it "painting fence with birds" but that same thought occurred to me

What did you do, take your fences to the zoo then buy them ice cream?

I've painted loads of fences over the years, I don't recall seeing birds come near them until after they had dried, which doesn't take long on a warm sunny day.

Yeah it should be touch-dry on the top in minutes rather than hours on a hot summer day. You could paint the top of each panel first and then the rest, I doubt birds will land on it while you're standing right by it.
