Oysters?

Why oysters, Stan? They're fucking rank and are unlikely to help you get a shag :( Spend the cash on something else :)

They are not rank to people that like them.
I would definitely confirm that your guests like them before serving them though as they are a treat to those that do but hugely unappreciated by those that don't.

On Man vs Food, Adam Richmond ate 13 dozen oysters as his challenge. By the end he said the pressure in his stomach and their slippiness meant they were sliding back up and out when he burped. Or whatever it's called when you release trapped oyster.

Sexy :p
Ugh :eek::D

Thanks everybody. I am afraid I am none the wiser though. So, I sent her a text inviting her to join me in my hotel room to share a large bag of Haribo favourites instead. I also went on to add that she should let her dog know the option is open if she doesn't fancy it. If my sense of humour didn't get through I could well be dining on oysters alone.

Has anyone here dined out on oysters alone?

Can I fuck your dog lol :D

Good work, Stan ;)

Yes. worth it. They've got decent amounts of zinc (apparently in a form that's most usable by the human body), iron, calcium, vits a and b12, and selenium, and apparently rare amino acids that trigger increased levels of sex hormones. http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2005/03/23/1111525227607.html

I quite like mashing up a bit of garlic and chili and putting that in vodka and pouring that mixture over the oysters before glugging 'em back, although the alcohol sort of cooks the oysters a bit.

But then again I love them so much that I proposed to my wife by hiding the ring in the shell of an oyster on a plate of oysters, thus hopefully insuring that I'll have an excuse to eat them for the rest of my life.

Oh and if they're not fresh you can get really bad food poisoning from them. I speak as someone who once stupidly brought 'reduced to clear' oysters.

Oysters are lush. Those seem fairly expensive though - there's a seafood restaurant that we eat out at sometimes and they serve half a dozen for about 8 quid. That's restaurant price. Supermarkets sell them for about 80p each round here.

Now I am scared.

Could it be that supermarket oysters are steralised for a longer shelf life whilst fresh resto oysters are €2.50 each, because they have to be sold on the day?

I remember when I was in Santander about 5 years ago. A group of teenagers were swept away from the cliffs whilst fishing/collecting oysters. Two of them were never found.

I was working for a restaurant at the time (sort of). Painting a huge mural of the Bay of Santander. They also ran a private community space. Very family oriented business and community venture. When the teenagers died they quickly organised visits and support for those grieving and recovering in hospital.

Are fresh oysters a different thing altogether?

Yes. I was saving the Haribo as a surprise.

------------ anyway, back to oysters. Anyone going to convince me they are really worth it?

There is no point convincing you.
If you like them and they are a treat for you, have them. But maybe not 30. Alone as a main dish I would have a dozen.
If not, don't.
Simple as :)

Fresh as compared to what? Frozen? Cooked?

Fresh from the sea. I am currently on a very small island.

I doubt there is much difference in actual flavour from picking them out the sea yourself and eating them in a seaside restaurant an hour or so after they have been caught.
Maybe it is more an experience than the actual flavour difference.

I have a friend who grew up on roar fish and seafood. He was raised in a cold country. As soon as fish and shells are taken from the sea they start going bad

Found it on Wikipedia

Oysters must be eaten alive, or cooked alive.
