I just happened to come across this article (and podcast) purely by chance the other day. And frankly it's one of the most remarkable sporting stories I've ever heard. Period. This woman's life and her achievements are all the more outstanding because of the ignorance and prejudice she had to face due to her colour and sexuality.
Quite amazing. She deserves to be far, far more widely known, that's for sure.

She was a 'queen of two courts' - but the world looked away
Ora Washington was a dominant champion across two sports in an age where prejudice and ignorance denied her proper recognition.
