I think America too, having rewatched it up to the intermission tonight. I usually moan about films being too long but this could go for a few hours more. The first act in particular with the child actors and the mise en scene of 1920s New York is simply brilliant.

West is a great film, but equally it’s building on the style and mood of his three prior spaghetti westerns, only with more budget and bigger name actors and familiar locations, so to some extent we know what to expect.
