Nick Cave - The Boatman's Call (not sure if I like actually)

Agreed. With the exception of 'Into My Arms' and 'Are You The One That I've Been Waiting For' it's dull as fuck. Whenever I listen to that I always end up thinking 'Get back on the drugs and wanting to cave Kylie's head in with a rock again, man, for God's sake.' ;)

I quite liked "The Boatman's Call"..."Into My Arms" and "People Ain't No Good" are particular favourites.

True, I like "Let Love In" and "Henry's Dream" a lot more and play them a lot more often but Nick Cave is getting well old and I suppose he didn't want to turn into a caricature and be spitting blood and screaming on about apocalyptic violence forever.
Actually, that'd be great, maybe we should get him some more drugs...;)

I do like a lot of his ballady stuff, I love "No More Shall We Part". But on first listen, "Boatman's Call" really hasn't grabbed me.

I'd rather he did that than turn into Paul fucking Weller.

the short, original mix of that is for my money one of the scariest records ever made (in a good way :) )

I hadn't heard of COIL, but I had listened to Throbbing Gristle before. I saw Blagsta wearing a COIL T-shirt and asked him who they were and then tracked some down.

Today I am listening to:

Marquee Moon by Television. I never tire of this album. :D
The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
Trainspotting by Original Soundtrack
Raw Power by Iggy & The Stooges

the lone ranger - the other side of dub

the slackers - the question

big black - the sound of impact

the handsome family - in the air

you've got to be firm with him, liberty.

just say 'mark, i know your career has been on the skids since Money For Nothing and Twisting by The Pool, but there's nothing i can do to change that, and i've got ironing to do so please fuck off and bother someone else with your twangy six-string stylings'

harsh but fair
