So the President of Nigeria has banned the nation from playing in international competitions for 2 years due to their 'dismal' display at the world cup..

Now FIFA have given them 48hrs to reverse this decision or they will suspend the team, all officials (refs etc) from international events...

To me its ridiculous for the powers that be in Nigeria are banning the team from playing.. How else can they develop and will have implications for players etc..

Any thoughts?

There are strict rules in place about government interference in national Football Associations. This seems a pretty clear cut breach of said rules.

France are also having an eye kept on them by FIFA, atm.

What international competitions are there in the next 2 years?

African Cup of Nations? Are they barred from the qualifiers or just the tournament?

Seems pretty fucking stupid and likely to backfire.

so if the governement doesn't reverse the decision to ban them from all international matches then they'll be punished by being banned from all international matches?

What's happening with this then? 48hrs have passed.

According to Sky Sports news the Nigerian President has backed down. What was also mentioned is that John Fashanu was amongst those demanding the President act against the team. He really is a fucking loathsome cunt of a human being.
