Needham Market v. Dulwich Hamlet, 23rd April 2016

Cyclodunc

Where's the slam tent, mate?
Final game of the regular season. A trip to the beautiful mid-Suffolk area.

Pre-match pub options:

King's Arms by Stowmarket station (one stop beyond Needham - 5 minutes - if travelling from Ipswich.)
Rampant Horse, close to Needham Market station. It's run by Calvors - a local brewery.

Ipswich has a fine pub called The Dove Street Inn, which I will be going to with my Dad (who's coming along to his 2nd Hamlet game of the season) in the evening. They're doing some kind of St George's day beer festival thing. Appreciate many of you will be going back to London on the coach(es).

You spelt carvery options wrong ;)
I prefer the 'Calvors' option myself.

Didn't think about Stowmarket and I've already booked my cheap train tickets for £9 each way.

Anyone thinking about pubbing in Ipswich should note that the station is on the edge of town and it's a fair hike to any decent pubs. I ended up in a Wetherspoon's on the way back from the pre-season game at Lowestoft four years ago and they were only serving in plastic glasses. It was around 7pm and the town centre was strangely quiet. I got the feeling it was 'the calm before the storm' and that it can get a bit lairy on late evenings at the weekend. There's one pub right outside the station which is for away fans only on ITFC matchdays, but they're away to Middlesbrough that day, so at least that's an option for anyone with time to kill between trains.

Never been into The Station pub, it has always looked too moody.

The station area is a bit of a deadspot really. The Steamboat Tavern is a 15 minute walk east of the station and is decent. It was renowned for live music when I was a teenager and think it still has gigs a lot of the time.

I fear I'm going to miss this one so I'll ask people in advance to please capture the important elements of the game for the Buzz report.
You know, vital things like divots, agricultural equipment, condiment tables, towels, seats with names on etc.

Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain?

There's plenty of the above and more to photograph at Needham! Our 'main stand' is like no other in the league, cobbled together from plastic seats and various bits of furniture.....

It would be useful to know, a couple of days before the game, how many you are expecting to bring - as it's the last game and the club doesn't get used for much else, we need to have enough beer, burgers etc without being left with tons of either / both to get rid of!

BTW, Needham is definitely not a shithole, so we hope lots of you pay us a visit.....

At the moment there is one coach, plus the train people, plus a possible second coach.
