National Rice Cake Shortage?

AnnaKarpik

Queen of all she surveys
I live in Herefordshire and I'm beginning to think I may have eaten every rice-cake in the county because I can't buy them anywhere this weekend. Morrison's haven't got any either in Ross or Hereford - no surprise there really, Morrison's specialise in inexplicable shortages of basic foodstuffs  - , but Sainsbury's haven't got any, or Somerfields or the health food shop. I'm starting to get worried.

Anyone else in the country noticed empty spaces on the shelves that should house Kallo Organic Ricecakes?

Must be my son's fault. He eats them by the lorry load. So sorry.:(

Rice cakes are weird... they have the taste and texture of polystyrene, but are weirdly moreish.

...but no, cant help ya. :(

Your son is in Herefordshire? Between the two of us we must eat enough of the bloody things to make it worthwhile to stock them, wouldn't you think?

And yes, I concede that they are tasteless pap; they are a very handy thing to layer cheese or ham or houmous on however and my preferred lunch/snack delivery system as I can't eat gluten and gain half a stone every time I bake gluten-free bread:(

eta; the thin ones are worse than useless - they don't stand up to the weight of a slice of cheese topped with a slice of tomato! What the fuck are they for?

I'm not getting a whole lot of sympathy here, am I? It's not that I like rice-cakes - I'm not a freak ffs - but I need something to put my nice food on. Eating houmous off a spoon just seems so - well, it seems toooo bad!

Gluten free oatcakes?

(I just really fucking hate rice cakes, so I'm not the person to look to for sympathy in this case, tbh....  :( :D )

Sadly - this really is sad too - I can't eat a whole lot of oats either. I think a manageable oat load would be around 2 oatcakes per week. I can eat one oatibix or a couple of tablespoons of porage twice a week, otherwise the world explodes out of my arse.

I really do need my rice-cakes:(

corn-cakes have 10* more flavour than rice-cakes. and you can eat as much as you want plain without inhaling clouds of fibrous dust.

Corn-cakes! Why didn't I think of that? I tried them once about 10 years ago and thought them horrible. But I thought the same about rice-cakes when I started eating them :(
