That time of year again

Especially important in these times of global pandemic, closed pubs and restaurants.

Before widespread poverty, Brexit food riots and nationwide malnutrition take hold we should try to embrace one of the few pleasures we all have left in life :)

So, any picnic plans in place?

What goes in your hamper or coolbox? What picnic kit do you own or covet? Any recipes to share with the group?

This looks like a pretty decent picnic 'holdall' but £50 is a bit rich.

tbh £50 isn't much for something you're entrusting a load of breakables to.

I guess. Probably my current financial situation more than a measure of value for money.

Would prefer a decent basket myself but that is likely more money.
at the moment i would use a sainsbury's 'bag for life' with paper plates, an auld spork or two, some plastic cups and some serviettes from pret a manger i took in february

Nothing to do with the 'official' National Picnic Week. Also an annoying, weak thread title that will not show up in 'Picnic' related searches. It can either slip into obscurity or maybe a mod can merge it into this one.
always seen you as a provisional national picnic week man myself, nothing good will come from the officials or stickies as they're known

I have got one very like that, but it didn't cost £50. I once took it to an Urban picnic just to show off. And because I wouldn't normally take it to a picnic 'cos it is a bit silly. Mine has knives and forks and plates and a cheese knife and a cheese board, and two little bags that are supposed to be for wine, but I completely failed to get a bottle in either of them. Oh, and a corkscrew that will never get used since no-one is daft enough to take wine with a cork on a picnic these days.

Picnic in Sussex today with my dad and his lady. Meeting in Lewes at Grange Gardens which is a pleasing setting.

Current laying off the carbs (ish) so my old favourites like gala pie and cheese/marmite rolls are out :(

So far the menu is:

Some baked cajun chicken
Grilled lamb kebab and red peppers
Rice and spinach salad
Small pot of olives
Carrot sticks

Have also baked a couple of Greggs Corned Beef bakes that had been lingering in my freezer. Taking them on the premise that 'dad will enjoy them' knowing full well I will probably stuff half or one into my face..

Apple juice in the flask :)

Sounds excellent and half useless :D

This thread reminded me that I do already have a pincic (more a cool bag) bag and dug that out the wardrobe yesterday

Bearing in mind we like a bit of a walk, we keep it simple. A small day sac is fine. Being old, a flask of tea, a bottle of water. Roll of choice...for Mrs tag mozzarella, tomato, basil and olive oil accompanied by a bag of tomato sauce crisps and maybe some strawberries or raspberries.
we always bring all rubbish home.
