music making software

Tell me what it does so well..?
It's the best bit of software ever made for drums, simple as that really.

I could write a multi page post listing everything it can do but I can't be arsed, just have a play with it and see for yourself :)

Am really intrigued as to what Spectrasonics are upto at the minute since their Happy New Year email said they're working on a load of new things plus loads of new enhancements for current and future software, but they're not saying anymore
Have you got Trilogy? It's bloody brilliant for bass noises - I defy anyone to try out preset "minimoog sine" and not bust out laughing :D

Atmosphere can make some stunning sounds as well.

Spectrasonics rock

Yeah, 'got hold' of Trilogy and Atmosphere not long after RMX, haven't used them as much yet, but i've had a bit of a break from writing since stuff has been somewhat hectic lately.

What's the Ethno Techno expander like? I got copies of the 5 main ones (backbeat, retro funk, liquid grooves, burning grooves and metamorphosis), didn't realise how many there were since they're not on the spectrasonic website. Just noticed a a packed torrent of 14 SAGE expanders/expansion packs...

I want it now!

We still need to get round to having a crazy studio session at some point, by spring or summer? (i.e. when i'm actually organised enough to plan things  :D )

hmmmm, metinks a sage expander swap could be in order...

ethno techno is wicked - loads of african percussion and other "world" drums, but put together with techno in mind - you can knock out some evil sounding beats with it.

Well i've got all 14 expanders now anyway :D

*Kisses broadband*

Will have to wait til later to have a look at them since i'm gonna be mad busy all day/weekend :(

Have you bought it? Or "borrowed" ( ;) ) it? If the latter, make sure you have the 8gig sample set that comes with it, it's useless without....

'borrowed' copy for now - got the 8GB samples with it but sounds like I'll be wanting to get the expanders soon aswell:D ...

Hope you all dont mind me hijacking the thread for a mo...

I am using a Mackie Spike to record my guitar stuff, and I use the software provided (Tracktion) to edit etc

However, I need drum loops and beats ... any ideas?

You can create your own beats using sampled persussion provided, but I have not got the time or the patience... im an axe man for godssake!!! :D

(and full of cliches too!!!)

Beesonthewhatnow:

Im making easy going folky aucoustic stuff, blues, rock whatever really

I just want some intersting beats to play along with at this early stage, to fill out my sound...

help please!!!

I've got SX Cubase, vey nice, although the cut and paste thing is a right bastard, I'ts not very intuitive, it will paste stuff in your garden when you want it in your shed:mad:

Reason v3.

There is no other.
A mate gave me Reason 1 YEARS ago, and I played happily with that for ages, until I broke it, and couldn't find the original CDs. So eventually eMule delivered me 3 images of Reason 3, and it's like Christmas! I'd even pay for it if I had the £££. The only snag now is that this 1.5GHz PC struggles a bit once I get more than about half a dozen units going. But feh, so I have to give up browsing while I Reason? *shrug*

So yes, another vote for Reason here, and I promise I'll pay for it when I'm earning again....

I find when my machine starts struggling (after I've added about 30 devices!!) if you mute any combinator channels until it plays OK and then carry on working, you can still export audio with no problems, it's just realtime playback it has issues with.

Plus of course you can export loops and trigger them as samples, which saves on processor struggle.
