Megalopolis - Francis Ford Coppola

I don't think Kermode does that generally. I think once he's got it in for someone then he's got it in for them forever, but I don't think he goes looking to bring down directors just because of big reputations.
I'm just going to have to watch it I guess.....on a big screen preferably.

I saw it last night and put my thoughts on the cinema thread. Not as bad as Kermode thought but really not great and no desire to give it a second go to see if it grows on me

The last FFC film I saw was Dracula, over 30 years ago. It's beautiful to look at but also annoying in parts... it's grown on me over the years.

Is Megalopolis comparable to any of his back catalog?

I have only seen the stuff from his 70s heyday, but I would say not at all!
Ah, ok. Makes sense because have felt that his films feel very different to each other.

Although his SE Hinton adaptations use of colour and visuals were quite breathtaking and then he progressed to aforementioned Dracula. Was guessing if the visuals in Megalopolis are another quantum leap in cinematography...

I'm not sure I'd a favourite anything bit. :(

(The footage bit near the end was really bad though.)
Mine was
the oral / anal “joke” early on. Total cringe, felt like it was borrowed from a porn film and it was the moment I knew it was going to be a long night

Actually, the

Shakespeare bits were terrible and made no sense at all.
