Megalopolis - Francis Ford Coppola

krtek a houby

Merry Xmas!
As you have probably heard, Coppola's long gestated passion project is finally (nearly) out there. It seems that some industry types are predicting a massive flop.

Tbf, the last Coppola film saw in the cinema was probably his Dracula take. Fun and ott, but hardly essential.

Still. It's a big budget sci-fi with an acclaimed director who has sunk his own money into it. He obviously believes in it, whether through vanity or conviction.

Here's a bit of footage - scroll through article a bit

I suppose I'd always thought he was a bit of a superstar because of The Godfather and Apocalypse Now but apart from those, his Wiki filmography has a right load of crap. Never realised he was responsible for "Jack".

An article here

Coppola doesn’t come out of it this well from the reports of his behaviour on set
I've heard there was a making of being filmed througout the production and it's full of dynamite!!

I watched that, admittedly not having seen the original for several years, and didn't notice much difference.

It's shorter, some scenes have been cut, and some moved about to make the narrative work better, and make the Vatican plot less confusing. The end is also different.

Quite like to see it now... Tbf, I never hated the original. Went to see it with bunch of Godfather fans and the general opinion was not bad, but nowhere near as engaging as the previous installments.

Trailer looks good, think I will see it in the cinema when it comes out - I was expecting it to be a 3.5-hour behemoth but running time is listed at a reasonable 2 hours 18 minutes
Ok, trailer looks well good and it's going to be IMAX, so unless the reviews are completely down on it, this may well be first FFC cinema experience since my twenties.

Shiver down the spine!

I'm seeing in the Guardfish article mostly complaints from the crew that Francis worked them too hard. The trailer looks & feels spectacular to me...

Have not read it yet, but historical reports on the guy indicating he'll always been a tough taskmaster.

Not that it excuses any shitty behaviour.

The re-edit of Godfather Pt 3 is a massive improvement on the original release.
Seriously underrated film, perhaps because it shows the end of it all, which is not as exciting as the all the murders and scheming and other gangsta movie tropes established in the first two films. The Corleones are a miserable family and it was all for nothing.

I think the second film shows this as well. He murders his own brother, he's estranged from his wife. He's already taking medication of some kind. He's destroyed the very family he was supposed to be doing it all for.
