Mazda MX-6

Anyone driven, owned or own one of these?

I was thinking about getting one (well, fantasising) and was wondering how they were. Autotrader site has some interesting ones crop up and Ebay has a few beaut's.

Haven't driven or owned one but that's never stopped me having an opinion :D

Better image and build than a Probe, which is basically exactly the same car, still FWD tho, should be pretty cheap for a decent one and V6 fairly quick although by no means earth shattering, nice torque tho. Probably a bit front heavy to really chuck around.

It's not what I'd call an "interesting" car, which given its age shouldn't make it too appealing. Or expensive, for that matter. It's a competant car.

As the PP said, it's a better-built Ford Probe.

Had to Google it to see what they looked like. Not very inspiring. :)

It inspires me. :p

The speed on my Probe v6 is not earth shattering (bhp hasnt been pushed up) but for motorway driving and local driving, it matches my requirements by far, disregarding the petrol consumption. And just like the Probe, the price is what makes it appealing but the insurance would be a killer so trying to justify that to the missus is gonna be like talking to a brick wall. :/

Still, it was a nice fantasy. :p

Didn't Gareth Cheeseman drive a Probe? :p

Ford Probe?!! You mean...someone still drives one? Wow I thought it had gone the way of the Calibra for the boy racers.

The MX-6 is pretty nice and roomy, but I wouldn't want one. Honda Prelude on the other hand :D

The MX6s have a four wheel steer I think. Interesting shape.

As always, check out carsurvey.org for owners reviews. If it is like other 1990s Mazdas then it will be a little fragile.

Bit asmatic IME, and still FWD.

There is only one proper cheap performance coupé, as I keep telling you people, but will you listen? :D

True - only ever driven one in Japan and it wasn't exactly 'standard' :D

The MR2 is lovely, but...I found it a bit souless compared to he Alfa GTV of Fiat Coupe. On the other hand it won't fall to pieces in about a year!

Aye, the Celica was mentioned on the <2k thread before the cheaper MR2. Nice, but obviously heavier than a MR2. And roomier to be fair.

The MX6 is more of GT coupe really. I'm surprised they're dear to insure tbh.

Hmm. The groups don't always make much difference... mine went down a few years ago when I switched from from group 19 to 20!

Maybe what you need is an older motor and classic insurance?
