Marine has conviction reduced to manslaughter

However, I don't see what people who have campaigned for his release gain by attacking those who show disquiet at a solider shooting a wounded man dead.
Venting, I guess.

If you were to change the above to "... attacking those who show disquiet at a [mentally ill] soldier shooting a wounded man dead" it changes things a bit.

tbh pa when someone does something and then says this very wrong thing i have just done never happened, i for one feel that any attempt to use a defence of temporary insanity or similar is a paltry cheap device used solely in an attempt to evade responsibility for what one's done.

Yes, but you're only 10, son.

When you're a big boy you'll see things differently.

What is interesting in this case in the acceptance that 1 /5th or so of squaddies may/ will suffer adjustment disorder - whether marine A was playing this system or not I have no idea, but I can see this becoming a standard defence ploy for mitigation with any other similar convictions or looming trials . I am sure I would go for this if I was ever in that position( unlikely obvs)

The barrister calling the talibanner a terrorist is a blunt piece of emotional propaganda I feel - insurgent/ rebel / whatever, but terrorist is a bit naughty

A more sensitive soul may have been a tad upset at a Jewish lawyer crowing about getting a crusading Christian soldier off the charge of murdering a Muslim, detailing how the alcohol will flow in celebration...

He's on video clearly expressing the nature of his crime and his awareness of the potential consequences. Sounds like sanity to me.

And if there's diminshed responsibility for one party, it follows that there should be augmented responsibility elsewhere. I don't see any brass in the dock over this, nor MOD staff, nor politicians.

It's possible to be mentally ill, and have your behaviour altered by that in ways that it otherwise wouldn't be altered, while being aware of what you are doing.

He was under a lot of stress apparently. Not unlike the people of Afghanistan who, after years of violent occupation by foreign powers, sometimes take it into their heads to resist their occupiers and who can than be summarily executed for doing so, or for living near some people who might have resisted, or for going to the wrong wedding.

Being dragged around and shouted at by a bunch of knuckle draggers after being grievously wounded by some cunt in a helicopter with a machine gun and before being shot in the heart and then insulted is also not great for one's mental health.

Shut up you twat.

I think it is likely was mentally fucked given the background of his personal life and that particular tour. of course that is his job and he should have had the support of his employer to minimize the impact- this clearly did not happen for whatver reason. Still an inexcusable and cuntish act to perform - the barrister response and public celebration is still very distaseful however.
