It's not the best is it?
but it would be a monumental task to get anyone from the Black Country or Coventry to say their from Birmingham, Greater or not

That's true. But they also won't say when asked where they come from "West Midlands Combined Regional Authority" will they?!

I guess it will just get shortened to the West Midlands, as West Midlands County Council is obselete now. Sure some won't be happy, as they weren't when parts of other counties were swallowed up to create the WMCC, but it's a lot less contentious than labeling everyone Brummies :)

The citizens of Greater Manchester seem to have survived being called Mancs.

True, but there's a very strong feeling against any percieved notion of becoming Birmingham around here though. Black Country folk are a very proud bunch. They've already had years of watching most investment and ammenities going to Birmingham, whilst having their cultural identity dismissed by most people out of the area and lumped in with brummies.

Personally, I don't care what it's called as long as it brings in some much needed investment into the areas surrounding Birmingham. But many see it as being swallowed up by Birmingham and an erosion of their identity.
