Latitude, where posh people go.

Well, they have sorted the food out from last year price and portion wise, I had a very decent fish and chips for 7 quid, less than my chippy near work. People must have complained.

Plus the programming was, like last year, of the highest quality all across site apart from some filler stuff in that woods areas.

Daniel Kitson was on absolute top form at 11am on Sunday morning just chatting to the audience. Laughing for well over an hour is like a drug. Saw some eco activist gospel choir, interesting monologue theatre, great ska style poetry and harp pop. This is why I go, being crew means I don't have to deal with the people in the camp site. The crew camper van field was probably better than most camp sites, ruler level and spacious.

Plus say what you like about the people that go, they are very respectful of the site, everyone puts their rubbish in the bin. Hardly any litter in the main arena Saturday evening, just around dinner time. Its a really lovely site and its quite a nice change just to stroll around it any time of day or night and not think I am strolling through landfill.

I really like it even more than I did last year.

The thing I remember most about the last Big Chill was the immense amounts of space that people were reserving for themselves in the live-in vehicle field. One lot had even put a picket fence around their luxury vehicle-cum-house on wheels that came with its own massive screen satellite TV.

thats what id do if i could afford it . Its primarily the fear of squalor, mud and bad toilets that stops me going to festivals .

Not get them at Latitude, loo's are deep cleaned every 1 1/2 hours and always have loo roll. The arena is sand, so no mud.

Dust though! Gah that dust. Like a mist at times.

yeah, probably a combo of the weather and correspondingly good on-site vibes, but it was a goodie this year. Really nice atmosphere.

did anyone go see the Neon Neon National Theatre of Wales Praxis Makes Perfect show there?

Yep. Needed to get there early to get in, but it was a one-off and worth the queue. For the uninitiated, Neon Neon play live slinky electro pop while the welsh national theatre tells the story of everyone’s favourite Italian communist/publishing house guru. With lots of other stuff going on.

Mad as fuck, but that’s what you want to find at a festival isn’t it?

tbh, going to a Festival Republic do and then making the sort of outraged complaints seen on this thread can at best be described as 'naive'

You need different things don't you? It's not Glastonbury but then I probably wouldn't go to Glastonbury again. Last time I did go, which was about 2005 or something I burst into tears when I got home after watching a documentary about Socrates.

Latitude is nice, it's clean, it is less likely that somebody is going to piss on your tent at 4am. I would be pretty happy to take my kids there. If I wanted a completely wrecked weekend after which I am so exhausted that I cry about the actions of ancient philosophers then it probably wouldn't be my first choice, but it's not a horrible place, I enjoyed the time I went there. Choice is good!

Why do people get upset about something so completely not aimed at them?

Surprised nobody goes to Womad it looks rather jolly if you're a Latitude fan and isn't it some sort of charitable foundation rather than the evil Melvin Ben empire.

I just got back from working at Camp Bestival, which is probably similar.

Loads of people seem to hate it. I thought it was excellent. Nice site, well organised, perfect size, no messy ketamine wrecks and decent music.

It's got a huge glamping middle class thirty something parent faction in attendance, but that's who it's aimed at. Tons of stuff for the kids too. There's also some normal people. Top festival imo, I'm taking lil fraction next year.

Me and trashpony were at it on a blag and were actually v impressed. Yes it is a bit middle class/glamping/yummy mummy, but it was really nice. As 2 adults sans kids we found plenty to do and see, but the kids provision was also good. V friendly and prices for food & booze no more horrific than any other festival.

I don't have kids but I think trashy said she's tempted to take the foal next year.

Ah don't you just love reverse snobbery. How dare people from different backgrounds to us have festivals and have them their way.

There is a festival for everyone. Go to the ones that suit you and have fun. Let others go to the ones that suit them and don't be so venomous that someone dares to enjoy themselves differently to you.

We went to Camp Bestival in 2008 -- the first year it happened. Mainly because it was a chance to see Chuck Berry  :)

It really wasn't for us -- very much aimed at/focussed on families and children and as far as we could tell, to an overwhelming extent.

BUT in its defence, I reckoned it was very well organised, and with with some great acts.

Not for us ;), but great for some.

And as for WOMAD -- if you're not in skintzone, there's plenty of fantastic acts there as well, and plenty of old school festival bods either working or puntering there, as well as the dreaded middle class loudly-entitled types. Who IME and IMO (I did WOMAD around 10 times when I was earning more, way back then!) don't dominate enough to be that much of a pain.

So overall I reckon I agree with Onket!!!! (plus with one or two others) -- for once!

Yes camp Bestival is aimed at families. That's well known.

I know a family that take their kids to camp and leave them at home for Bestival proper.

It's totally fair enough. It was the first one that we went to though, and we hadn't quite picked up on what its core market was, or to what extent. We were fine really, Beautiful Days is also pretty kidz friendly.

But we decided to focus on other festivals, after our Creche Camp Extreme Experience was over! :p

I really enjoyed it and thought it was refreshing tatt-free - given there's so many kids there, there were relatively few stalls selling stuff aimed at them. You could also get a cup of tea and a half baguette sandwich in the WI tent for £2.50 which is pretty good value and something I've never seen at any other festivals.

I'm off to the Electric Picnic in Co. Offaly (Ireland) at the end of the month. The bill is sensational, with Bjork, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Fatboy Slim - and ROBERT PLANT!!! I'm so excited!!!:D

:D

See, I don't like it. But I recognise that it's not aimed at me and so I can see that it would be a complete waste of time making myself look like a fool complaining about it.

Luckily you have many other ways of achieving that
