Latitude, where posh people go.

The thing I remember most about the last Big Chill was the immense amounts of space that people were reserving for themselves in the live-in vehicle field. One lot had even put a picket fence around their luxury vehicle-cum-house on wheels that came with its own massive screen satellite TV.

I enjoyed Latitude. Or at least I did 4 years ago which was the only time I went. Travelled up with kyser and wrysmile, saw some good bands, comedy, poetry, theatre, live radio comedy for the BBC. It just attracts that kind of crowd, with kids an all. I didn't expect it to be Ozzfest.

The only sour point was Keith Allen being a tit. Otherwise it was great,

People age, have kids; they can still like music.

Of course. And I know loads and loads of festival-goers who have had kids and still go to festivals and have a great time.

But it's when they expect the festival to change to suit how they've changed that I get pissed off.

Indeed. I can't imagine being asked at even Glasto (which has become its own middle class hell imo) being asked to keep the noise down at my tent site. At midnight.

They're the paying customers, though. As they age, the nature of the concerts, the venues etc, will change. Younger people will still be having those other types of festivals.

I felt a bit of that when I recently went to an electronica type concert with a couple of my kids. I loved the energy etc. But I was the old fucker there. It made me wish that it was still possible to do the same sort of thing, but with a wider age range. I don't mind being the oldest, but, really.

I was retaining the hope in the back of my mind that in Europe, things weren't quite so stratified.

Absolutely. At my club nights, the ages will range from 16 - 70, and that's not even slightly unusual at many festivals.

Wow. In some ways, you Europeans have it going on in ways we don't. I think there's still a bit too much touch of the Puritan in our culture.

The security at that last Big Chill I went to was awful. Bags were being nicked right in front of the security 'guards' and even when I pointed out a thief in action they didn't act. And then there was that smug song they'd made about their tenth anniversary which was quite the worst thing I've ever heard. And they kept fucking playing it.

And fucking Norman Jay with squatting rights on the main stage on the Sunday with his the sunshine's here because of me schtick. Had some good times there though except for the last one which was absolute shit in comparison.

Totally agree with you. Have a look at my post #17 on this thread.

My mention of the 'baby on board' signs was a bit of a joke aimed at people who had been arguing about them on the Brixton thread, that's all.
