Now wouldn't that be exciting!

I heard that the "internet" link between the various locations is 10,000 faster then broadband...

Awesome project.

anyone know where the video is that shows what happens if it does infact create a black hole. (its a video showing the earth being swallowed up into a lovely cute mini black one.

They had a trial of the datalink between the LHC and RAL about 2 years ago to check if it agffected any of the other systems at RAL. I can't remember the speed of the transfer now, but I remember being pretty gobsmacked by it!

Hold on though, with a mass that great wouldn't time slow down to almost nothing? We would live for thousands of years. Yay.

Oh no wait it's all relative.

Balls.

Me and a friend worked out once that time travel would be a bad thing... because his mum was an absolute fox when she was younger.. and I could have ended up as his dad....

Time travel will only begin from red button day onwards (red button day will be as far as you can go back), so no need to worry about that.

I've made something very similar to this in my garage;)
It's built with a zx spectrum at the core of it's technology and i used parts from my old beta-max video recorder, a Vauxhall Zafira and some chicken wire i had left over from a papier mache project.

I'm going to test it Sunday if anyone wants to pop round.;)

It won't work - you have to use parts from a Vauxhall Nova (preferably an '84 model).

Should be OK then.

I missed this thread coming up. My brother and my Dad are working on this thing at the moment. They both work at Rutherford Appleton too. When I try to get my Dad to explain what's going on with it, I can understand for about 20 mins then I completely lose the thread. I didn't inherit the particle physicist brains in my family.

I read something about this today. Apparently, even the physicists working on it think there is a 1%- 10% chance that the collider will create dark matter or black holes that will consume the earth.

If it gets rid of coldplay then it's worth it.

complete rubbish. cosmic rays hit each other at similar energies billions of times a second completely safely. they're hitting you right now. note the abscence of black holes.

My t-shirt is full of holes

Damn you cosmic rays... damn you all to hell!!!

<shakes fist at sky>
