Labour has a homophobia and transphobia problem

Stephen Timms MP is an unrepentant homophobe who yesterday elected to troll gay people and his own leader by tweeting his support for the homophobic church in question.

No action will be taken because SKS is a spineless shit and Timms is a right winger anyway so it's fine and not at all comparable to.. checks notes retweeting Maxine Peake

We're stuck with the tories for another decade, aren't we? :(

I want him to grow a fucking spine, step the fuck up and become the leader of a credible opposition party. Doesn’t seem like much to ask really, given the absolute fucking shambles we have for a government.
Even my Tory in-laws were bemoaning the lack of opposition the other day. Get the feeling that this lot in power aren't to them the "decent" sort of Tories like Cameron, Osborne, Hague, etc :D

not saying this is a Labour supporter...but didn't quite know where to put this...

My local Tory MP, who is very open about his orientation and partner, has received and published on SM a nasty threatening, homophobic letter.

I've seen other MPs in receipt of such letters put them up on SM, so Colburn is not alone in publicising the abuse. But his decision to go public with this did lead me to consider:

1. To what extent public figures in receipt of threats calculate the personal 'benefit' or sympathy vote potential of such publicity.
2. Whether or not the evidence that it comes from a politically opposed position influences the decision to go public.
and, in this particular case,
3. Who or what "rar" might be?

Probably not Rock Against Racism.

Well, yeah. But we're stuck with this particularly crappy version of them.
I don't think so. The Tories'll dump Johnson and we'll be stuck with a different crappy version of them. Or Labour will bring back Blair to show how to do NeoLiberalism properly.

Probably not reading and research either, which is what comes to my mind.

The trouble with focusing on the personality of Boris Johnson is that the “problem” will be fixed by replacing him. And so on. And so on.

We need to get better at focusing criticism.

You know Debbie Hayton is a trans woman right? But the wrong kind obvs.

I believe Debbie identifies as an autogynephilic fetishistic male with a mental health condition at the moment, although it's hard to keep up. It seems to vary according to how much attention they want from Quilette and The Spectator. Either way they have consistently defended some of the most abusive bigots in this debate, promoted the claim that Queer Theory is a paedophile plot and recently pushed the ridiculous anti-LGBT conspiracy theory that the Woman's Rights Caucus, a group of 200 feminist NGOs, are actively campagining to reduce the age of consent to 10.

So presumably these are the kinds of views that should be tolerated within Labour or the party will be torn apart.

Ok. I regretted the post as soon as I wrote it. She still calls herself a trans person, but i haven’t been ‘following’ her for about two years & I don’t know what all she’s been endorsing.
