Knowing when its time to move to a more elderly residential area.

Hollis

bloody furious
:weed::weed::weed:
I was reflecting after my second 'near miss' with some tracksuited yoof on his e-scooter last night, that maybe it was time to throw in the towel.. admit I can't cut it anymore in the inner city, and find myself a nice quite cul-de-sac somewhere in the suburbia, preferably full of old people and 50+ empty nesters..

Any thoughts/reflections from folk who have made the journey?

Hackney fits your bill

you’ll feel it in your bones when it’s time to move.
We moved from Brixton to live out our old age in leafy Crystal Palace.
You won’t be ‘bored‘ if you move to a less ’vibrant’ area once you’re past it.

if we're being serious here -

there is something to be said for making that sort of move while you still have the energy and inclination to do it rather than leaving it too late

it's also worth thinking about access to shops / doctors / bus stops / whatever else you want to have access to - and how that access will be if you get less mobile. in particular if you run a car now, what if you reach the point where you can't? (it's not unknown for people to retire to somewhere out in the back of beyond then have to move again when they have had to give up driving - or if only one of a couple can drive and s/he dies first)

Swindon is twinned with Disney World, I don't think being fictional is any barrier :D

wincanton was stopped from twinning with ankh-morpork :(

i am aware thanks
:D A lot of it is actually filmed in Oxfordshire and up to 2011 it didn't have any ethnic minority actors.

n March 2011, the series' producer, Brian True-May, was suspended by All3Media after telling the TV listings magazine Radio Times that the programme did not have any non-white characters because the series was a "bastion of Englishness". When challenged about the term "Englishness" and whether that would exclude ethnic minorities, True-May responded: "Well, it should do, and maybe I'm not politically correct."

Yeah I remember that comment, there was quite rightly a shitstorm about it. I don't think I have ever watched the show however  I was thinking more Miss Marple which probably isn't any more diverse.

But what is murder? Some people want to be helped out of it.
I certainly would suggest to check for Dignitas logos and branding before moving in. (Unless you are ready to go ofc).

(This is not a serious comment btw, I used to work giving funeral advice and do have a bit of a weird take on what is funny, just saying this in case anyone thinks I am being entirely serious)

I'm thinking about death all the time. I'm reading Hamlet, watching it on dvd and have picked up gin.

Spent the last few days sorting out cupboards, chucking things out, calling in my debtors, piling up stuff for charity shops, cutting ties etc.

Quite enjoying it.
