Just got an allotment and have no idea how things work

Well I've spent about seven or eight hours getting it started, the more I do, the more overwhelming it feels but I'm getting there. I've also got an app on my phone that tells me what all the plants are which is the most Star Trek thing to happen in my life so far.

I've covered two of the beds in cardboard and compost but I'm keeping them for spring. If they stay weed free they can be my first proper beds. I've cleared some other raised beds which I'm just going to chuck compost on and plant onions and garlic while I still can. I'm rehabilitating a couple of old cold frames to get some peas and broad beans started. I also have three whole hazel bushes one of which is towering over a tiny blackthorn that will have no chance unless I cut the hazel right back. And I have three tiny gooseberry bushes which my app says have brown spot. I'd like to bin them tbh. Still not keen on the passion vine all over my shelter. I'm thinking of replacing it with clear plastic and guttering so I can harvest rain water and have a shelter for less hardy plants. There are two different honeysuckle bushes round my pond. Thinking of ditching them and extending the pond but that's definitely a next year job.PXL_20241028_155314476.jpgPXL_20241028_155250872.jpg
