Ivory Coast v Japan (Group C) Sunday 15th June 2014

perhaps but it's standard for english people to use the anglicised version. that's why you don't hear commentators refering to deutschland or espana or... well i can't think of any others but you get the idea!
I might be wrong but I think they want to be known as Côte d'Ivoire. Probably change in time as we get used to it. Other name changes I can think of include Myanmar instead of Burma.

i think those are two different issues. it's like french people would call england angleterre

The name had long since been translated literally into other languages,[n 3] which the post-independence government considered to be increasingly troublesome whenever its international dealings extended beyond the Francophone sphere. Therefore, in April 1986, the government declared Côte d'Ivoire (or, more fully, République de Côte d'Ivoire[21]) to be its formal name for the purposes of diplomatic protocol, and officially refuses to recognize or accept any translation from French to another language in its international dealings.[20][22][23]

well that's me told. not quite sure how ivory coast in english is worse than cote d'ivoire in french though?

What is it about french speakers and being precious arseholes about their dying post imperial language.

This was originally supposed to be the England k/o time :D

Fuck the commentator saying Japan are an easier team than Colombia! Nihoooooon!

presumably they litter their own speech with other country names in their original language just to be fair.

c'est ridicule qu'en england ils nous appellent Ivory Coast...

I thought it's been quite good so far. However like England game there should have been more goals.

Oi itv, if I'm still awake at 3am for ivory coast japan you can rest assured that I'm interested in football beyond sodding England. Don't need more analysis of earlier

that commentator is a tard, slo mo shows Kagawa kept ball in "cheeky shot by Kagawa but the ball had went out".

Bony is a bit of an Andrew Cole, isn't he? Takes up a lot of good positions, makes great runs but often profligate.
