Is John Lydon a twat?

I think a lot of you want him to be something he isn't. tbh if we all held to the views we had when we were teenagers we'd all be loons yet this seems to be what's expected of lydon. In a way I think he'd be happier if he'd never been in the pistols because he must be so sick of people bringing up those 2-3 years of his life. So it's not to my way of thinking entirely strange that he says and does things which don't sit well with a lot of people. Lots of it is no doubt to put up two fingers to people who want him in 2020 to be who he was in 1976 and 1977. It is I think a refusal to be pigeonholed.

I don't agree with many of the stances lydon proclaims now. But I long ago stopped looking to him for direction. He's had a long and interesting career but if it had been down to him and not Steve Jones who'd done most of the talking on the today programme with bill grundy then I think we'd have heard the last of lydon and the sex pistols a long, long time ago

I dont really care what he is now, I just have my opinions of what he's saying when he says something that lots of people hear about and comment on.

It was interesting to see another side of him in that interview. But Im unconvinced by his 'strange bedfellows hold nose whilst striking dogma busting pose' justifications for some of his shit these days.

Also rarely do I mis the opportunity to post this song, and your post is ample opportunity for this....

Wow. But isn’t California close to being a failed state now?

From what I’ve read it’s extreme wealth or extreme poverty/homelessness with not much in between.

Isn't that most of America?

I know one old punk IRL who holds right-wing views (and would be a Trump supporter if he was in the U.S.). Not sure what political views punk is meant to translate in to...

usual right wing trolling

California seems to be the prime example, horrifically ran by far left Dems - the cost of living in California is 4x to Texas, hence a lot of people leaving to go there. Apparently Texans don’t appreciate Cali libs bringing their ideology tho - hence the bumper sticker/t-shirt ‘Don’t California My Texas’.

Fuck off.

Total made-up bullshit. There are very 'liberal' bits of Texas and have been for a long time. 'Texans' are not one thing. People move there because there are a lot of jobs in various bits of Texas.

California 'far left' lol.

Define "far left", YOU CUNT

This video (4 months old so currently relevant) shows the top 10 states Californians relocate to, the various reasons why and the stigma they face once they arrive. Texas is the No. 1 destination.

Stop basing your knowledge on fucking YouTube you dick.

As stated, Texas is a diverse place. The state capital, Austin, is known for being a welcoming place to all cultures and has always had a thriving club scene of many hues. Or as its put elsewhere on tinternet, “a collaborative tech culture that is warm and accepting of people who are not from here”.

Dallas, Texas was the original home of Ecstasy and the dance scene. And I mean original, early 80s. And the ecstasy was made in California.

HTH.

"peddling tedious far right talking points and shoe horning them into threads again" said the reported post, and I fully agree. The mods' patience with your disruptive right-wing cheerleading is coming to an end.

Apart from your mention of Dallas as the home of ecstasy, the vid I posted reflects your points.

Worth noting that the maker of the vid was born and raised in Southern Cali.

steve jones not entirely complimentary about him in his autobiography 'lonely boy' (which is well worth a read incidentally)

I've just started reading this. Heard that the new film (or is it s TV series?) about the Pistols draws heavily from the autobiography and that Lydon ain't happy about it.

Not yet got past the first few chapters where Jones is discussing his childhood. But am looking forward to reading the rest and finding out what all the fuss is about.

Finished reading the Jones' autobiography on Boxing Day. Still not sure what all the he fuss is about! Yes, there are times when he's not that complimentary about Lydon, and at least one point calls him a "cunt", but he also gives him due credit for several things. I got the impression that Jones was pretty fair, and very honest. And I'm definitely more inclined to believe that Steve Jones is an up-front, honest geezer, unlike Lydon and McLaren who have both demonstrated a tendancy to bullshit

If he really said that (and I can believe he has) then this is probably the final straw for me; the little respect I had left for him has now been lost. What a shame.

Whatever John Lydon has now become - and yes there is much to criticize (not that he'd give a toss either way) - there's no getting away from the fact that Never Mind The Bollocks still remains one of the most incendiary rock albums ever made. It still holds up fantastically well today in my opinion. Even better though is PIL's Metal Box. l first heard this some years back when I was 17. And it absolutely floored me. Still does. A startling, disconcerting and seminal record that still sounds like something from the future, even though it was made some 43 years ago. So, yes, I get that he may be somewhat of a flawed figure nowadays, a rather measly contrarian with a clay of feet. But for me personally, I'll always be grateful for those two albums and to the man who was instrumental in creating them.
