Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

A communist country with a capitalist economy. And did you know they are now 20th. in the world for 'quality of life'! Just 3 places behind the US that is now 17th.

China takes a politically moderate approach to human rights, while the US is guilty of killing 20,000,000 people in foreign lands in 40 wars of aggression since WW2 alone.

I mean, what can ya say Pickman? China should say sorry to the fkng Dalii Llama?
This would be the politically moderate approach as they take in Xinjiang

E2A posted before I saw dh had been barred from the thread

Just found out about another police killing, and a protest as a result, In Louisiana, 5 days ago!

The dead man's name3 was Trayford Pellerin. Just what is it with the cops. All things considered, you'd think if there's one thing they'd want to avoid right now it's triggering further protests:facepalm::mad:
I think that a level of racist ideology is so embedded in the minds of the kind of people who tend to become cops in the US that they simply can't get their heads around the idea that it's somehow not OK to shoot a black man. You don't solve that kind of problem with diversity training - you need to go back to their origins. The only way you're going to end up with a non-racist police force is to screen applicants like fuck, and rigorously exclude any who betray signs of even latent racism. It's not that there's a few bad apples - lots of those apples are fine, but the fucking barrel has rotted to bits.

The video of the shooting and its immediate aftermath (shooter jogs towards phalanx of mechanised cops, still toting his rifle, and is entirely unmolested by them) is astonishing, and yet also a straight forward behind-the-curtain, fallen-scales reveal.

Trying to find more details, but the Milwaukee Bucks are boycotting and NBA playoff game today.

Edit: more details

Tip off between [the Milwaukee Bucks and Orlando Magic] was scheduled for 1 p.m. PT, but as of present the Bucks team is refusing to take the court. The Magic had been warming up for the game, but then left the court when it became clear their opponents weren’t coming out.

absolutely agree with all of that. Although it's also a whole lot of other factors (like how the universal gun culture embeds such brutality in both police and the wider society they serve, and how the pitiful state of police accountability, especially in the South, tells them they can quite literally get away with murder).

I'd also add that shooting protestors is something that a lot of US audiences have had normalised over the past twenty-odd years, if not domestically then certainly in terms of US forces / US allies abroad.

There's even video coverage of the Police giving him and other AR-15 toting, alt-right types water, and thanking them. A new low.

yes, also sadly true. If Might Is Right is the cornerstone of foreign policy for so long - it sooner or later comes home (or the psychology of it certainly does).

Came across this while reading google news.

  • Before two protesters were shot and killed Tuesday night in Kenosha, Wisconsin, a Facebook page posted an event calling on members to "take up arms and defend our city tonight from the evil thugs."
  • The event was created by Kenosha Guard, a self-described militia group that had more than 3,000 members on Facebook.
  • Facebook removed the "call to arms" event and the Kenosha Guard page on Wednesday, according to The Verge.
  • An Illinois resident was arrested Wednesday in connection to the shooting that killed two people and left another injured during a night of protests over the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Hubby was wondering how the anti-protesters knew to come to the town. Now we know - facebook

Hubby wanted to know why all these protests seem to happen at night. Here, in Canada, most protests happen during the day.
I told him I have no idea.

I'm sure some of you know the answer, so help...?

eta: the link -> A 'Kenosha Guard' Facebook event called on people to 'take up arms' against protesters. Facebook removed it after two people were shot dead.

Dread to think how the Republicans will capitalise on this later outrage. They'll spin it in their favour, of course, like everything else.
sure, but | I don't think it will work now. America is pretty much implodng. fuck nows how much this one will play out
this is '68, for the internet generation

I read this above with sadness.

I'm gonna post for JC...

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
Four dead in Ohio (Four dead)
Four dead in Ohio (Four)
Four dead in Ohio (How many?)
Four dead in Ohio (How many more?)
Four dead in Ohio (Why?)
Four dead in Ohio (Oh!)
Four dead in Ohio (Four)
Four dead in Ohio (Why?)
Four dead in Ohio (Why?)

But seriously, there have been more dead than in Ohio.

My heart breaks....

In Portland legitimate protests do happen during the day or early evening. The riots happen at night. I suspect it has to do with the rioter's desire for publicity. The first item on the 11 PM news is the riot or riots. They usually happen to be occurring right around 11. Where will they riot tonight? Tonight they rioted at ICE HQ so it was the usual rioters vs. the feds guarding the building.

Rioting is a valid form of protest, especially given that the murderous filth (cops and militia) may be acting in collusion with each other. Bending a knee doesn't stop the fascists.

Amazing. You not only think that 100-200 people are capable of waging an 89 day-and-counting campaign of property damage without any interruption, interference or delay, you also think they can do it whilst setting themselves the constraint of timing it against a TV schedule. Do you also think these 100-200 people can see through walls and leap buildings with a single bound? Because even though they have the entire federal government wanting to destroy them, they can apparently telegraph exactly when and where they’re going to be and yet still get away unscathed. The 300 Spartans at Thermopylae had nothing on this mighty 100-200 Oregonites.

I'm simply saying the rioters want publicity. I don't think they see the TV schedule as a constraint at all. They see it as an opportunity. And that 100 -200 figure is accurate.
