Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

Chomsky said:
His chances of victory depend on his doing something dramatic. He was trying very hard to set up military confrontations that you mentioned, martial law. It’s moving toward martial law.

In this interview Chomsky discuses amongst other things the possibility of the American election being cancelled !

Have another look and tell us again it's just graffiti on the side of a pawnbroker. This was shot more than a month and a half ago. It's much worse now. How can you be so indifferent to those that have been put out of work due to this destruction? Tell us again about your concern for the working class.

Jebus Tom its hardly down town Baghdad is it

Bonus points for including a Portland Chapter of Scientology :D

Can I just say that the "Portland anarchist disaster area" video that's been posted a few times is pretty shit - a guy loops round the same block of expensive shops in the centre of town a few times and whoa they're boarded up, and still boarded up when he comes round again. A pretty suburban idea of what disintegration of civilisation looks like, you literally can't get into the Apple Store.

it kinda sad that Tom feels this way and shows why some states might vote Trump

Because they don't view themselves as Racist, this movement makes they feel personally attacked

Mostly because the jingoistic nationalism they cannot differentiate actions against the state as not an attack on all Americans

Its like living with the Brexit bullshite for about 150 years

Not only can you not get into the Apple store, it was trashed and looted. About 75 people used to work there. Now nobody works there.

Tom that set of images posted by Fridge magnet should be what you respond to not boarded up shops and a Fox news Trump attack ad..
The Trump ad isn't from Fox news. It's from the Trump campaign and it's being shown on TV and distributed by email and social media. What I'm respomding to is the destruction of much of downtown Portland and the resulting lost jobs.

President Trump called Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler “pathetic” after the Oregon politician was gassed by federal troops while standing among protesters outside a courthouse.

“He made a fool out of himself. He wanted to be among the people, so he went into the crowd and they knocked the hell out of him,”

Trump said during a prime-time performance with Sean Hannity on Fox News Thursday. “That was the end of him. So that was pretty pathetic.”

Yeah I saw the video, scientology boarded up. It's basically Kosovo during the breakup of Yugoslavia. You reactionary hang em and flog em wanker.

Trump sent the homeland security goons here to Seattle last night right after the feds told the governor they wouldn't

There were fucking contracters out downtown today building fortifications. Boarding up every window. They're building a wall around the precinct:

I can't interpret this as anything but an attempt by Trump to cause violence and tension. Protests were cooling off slowly, the autonomous zone isn't there anymore, cops are back in the precinct on capitol hill as far as I know. Fucking bastard wants to destroy my city.

If they don't extend the enhanced unemployment benefits things will get even worse, fast.

U.S. House Speaker Pelosi opposes separate deal on jobless benefits
July 24, 2020
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected on Friday the idea of a temporary extension to enhanced unemployment benefits, which expire on July 31, while Congress continues work on a new coronavirus relief bill.

“I would be very much averse to separating this (unemployment benefits) out and lose all leverage (on Republicans) for ... meeting all of the other needs,” as lawmakers negotiate another coronavirus aid bill, Pelosi, a Democrat, told reporters.

Enhanced unemployment benefits that Congress authorized early in the coronavirus pandemic expire in one week’s time, and lawmakers have been unable to agree on a measure to extend them. The benefits provide an extra $600 a week on top of what states are already paying tens of millions of jobless workers.
