Is America burning? (Black Lives Matter protests, civil unrest and riots 2020)

I don't think thats true. It looks like having someone in your family who is in the military (or navy etc whatever) makes you less likely to support the protests in general than most other people, and more likely to say you 'strongly oppose' them than almost any other group.

Military families not quite the same as military, mind you. But even there you have a 51:31 split support : oppose. And more strongly support than strongly oppose.

True. It’s surprised me how high the I approve of the protests in general numbers are in that whole poll. I wonder if the actions of the police since protests began pushed those approval ratings way up.

And tbh that's the main message I take from that poll. Trump can cherry-pick bits from it, but he'd be better off not drawing attention to it, perhaps. Overall it is very bad news for Trump. There is not a single demographic in that list in which even 40 per cent oppose the protests, let alone a majority, even among evangelical Christians.

Maybe not quite the right thread. But.. this is quite powerful. This is the man who could replace Donald fucking Trump.

Biden was against school busing in the 1970s, worked with segregationist politicians to this end and reportedly said he didn’t want his children growing up in a ‘racial jungle’. Not to mention he votes against progressive policies, supports war and has a sexual allegations looming over his head.

What’s shocking about that video is how much he has declined from that to being barely able to form a cogent sentence today. If that’s the man to replace Trump then I truly feel sorry for the American people.

I came to this story a bit late (was tied up with other stuff when it broke), but I've found it interesting and encouraging how wide-ranging the condemnation of this killing has been from all sorts of quarters that I don't normally see weighing in.
Nothing like the equivocal mealy-mouthed mutterings of the past.

Maybe something is finally shifting.

Wow. Had no idea. Another massive hypocrite then. He certainly seems to believe what he's ranting about in that video though.

Out of interest, and to settle an argument with my other half, why does Obama seem to unequivocally back him and selected him as VP?

Black americans seem to like him well enough. He played 2nd fiddle to a black president and that counts for something.

Best of a very very bad lot :(

I'm astonished the Democrats couldn't find a more plausible candidate. But then I live in a country which has recently elected Boris Johnson with a massive majority so I guess we can't judge them for their idiocy.

If Biden is anything like the man he is in that apartheid video though, well, godspeed.

Though there would be a certain amount of satisfaction at Trump getting beaten by such a shit opponent

Would it hurt Trump to acknowledge the illegal murder of George Floyd by the police and to say that justice will be done?

I don't think he has mentioned that yet no?

Also Joe Biden, in 2020: ‘instead of standing there and teaching a cop to shoot an unarmed person coming at them with a knife or something (?!), shoot them in the leg instead of the heart … there’s a lot of different things that can change’
